I never said "everyone" *new* (sic), however, it is obvious that enough of the people who were in a position to take corrective action did know, and failed miserably in performing their obligations, as well as being decent human beings. I do not think that it is far-fetched to say that there most certainly was a knowledge & rumours throughout the department. Sure, innuendo is not enough to infer guilt, I will agree with that, but folks berating the sign-holder & abusing him does not bolster a case for sympathy for these guys. It just makes them look bad, IMHO.

You cited ONE game. Listen, you can pick apart the series, and say that they were just lucky, or they won in spite of him, but what about the White Sox? What about Oakland. Third most wins in MLB history? Why am I even arguing with you? Clearly, you wish to ignore all the successes, and seem to opine that the man has enjoyed Forrest Gump serendipity as a baseball manager. He has enjoyed these successes - these are facts. Undeniable facts. He has won everywhere he has been. It is what it is. I am done here.

One game does not a career make. The dude is HOF manager, and that's not even an argument. Hate dislike or disagree with him, but you absolutely cannot argue with his results.

I think this is fairly accurate. I have to swim upstream on LaRussa. I like him. He's fiery, competitive, and all he ever does is win, wherever he manages. WTH is not to like? You don't have to like him personally, but I highly admire his body of work, and would love to have a guy who gets his type of results manage the Cubs.

Castro is a keeper. Essentially, he is untouchable at this point unless you just absolutely ream the other team talent-wise. Castro's ceiling is so high, it's just not smart to move him, IMO.

By whom? It's been pretty much the scuttlebutt all season long that this would be his last in Saint Louis. According to the article, he gave them the word in August. This was totally expected.

Very well put Vance. Sandberg is not my favourite Cubs player, but I do really like him. I agree completely with what you wrote - it makes perfect sense.

There is no way the Red Sox get anybody from the major league roster. It would be setting a new precedent, and if Selig decides, that's not a decision he's going to make, IMO. The Red Sox are being completely unreasonable. The Cubs have made an offer of compensation that is more than fair. if this goes to Selig, the Red Sox will get screwed. JMHO
