  1. So that makes the smell one million times better than Busch II, huh? :D Give it time, eventually it'll take on that lovely "St. Louis" smell. Actually, now that I've lived in Chicago for about a year, I can say that Chicago often stinks. Don't get me wrong, I love this city, but it stinks in places. I think it has something to do with the storm drains. They all vent right out into the air. In St. Louis the storm drains are built into the curbs and have solid coverings that keep the smells contained. Here in Chicago they just vent right out into the air so anywhere within a 20 foot radius of one absolutely reeks on a hot day.
  2. He doesn't seem to have a lot going on upstairs, that's how.
  3. I was in a bar on the south side this past Sunday night during the Cubs-Cards game and got to talking with this guy about baseball. He was a Cubs fan and a big Dusty fan. Loves Dusty, thinks he is an "MVP manager." I cited examples as to why Dusty is actually not really that great a manager, but he was not deterred. So apparently there are some hard core Dusty fans out there, and some of them live on the south side. Also, a cabbie picked me up at Logan Square a few weeks ago who, I swear, looked EXACTLY like Dusty. Toothpick and everything. I almost asked him point blank if he were Dusty. I thought maybe Dusty had decided to drive a cab for a day to talk baseball and try to gauge the pulse on this year's team or something.
  4. Maybe in some kind of worse case scenario we move Ponson to the bullpen for long relief, bring Reyes up as the 5th starter, and let Wainwright close. Izzy was never really a lights out closer. He's racked up the saves since coming to the Cardinals, but very often he gets the save by the skin of his teeth. It's possible that his edge was very small to begin with and that he doesn't necessarily have to regress much in order to be ineffective. That being said, I think he'll probably be fine in time for the Cardinals bullpen to end up a plus relief corps.
  5. I think it's a little early to start saying this kind of thing. It is early, and I'm not saying it with any conviction. On the other hand, if it is the end of the line, it wouldn't be the first time this happened to a closer who had experienced some success. Furthermore, one does have to wonder if the failures so far will impact his psyche any. I'd actually worry the least about Izzy's psyche. He's got the perfect closer mentality. His velocity and control, however, are worrisome.
  6. I'm 5'10'' 155-160. I played short and center into high school. I've got awesome reflexes and am pretty fast, so something in the middle infield is about all I could play since I don't have an outfield arm. But that's in my fantasy world. In real life I'd probably get embarassed by little leaguers these days.
  7. I think it's a little early to start saying this kind of thing.
  8. Juan almost hit a walk-off shot today. Carlos Lee robbed it. He should have hit it harder. Bum.
  9. I think it's due for a devestating head-on-collision with the Release Juan Encarnacion Bandwagon.
  10. http://www.cabel.name/images-post/2006/01/roflcopter.gif PujolsPower cost us this game! How did that username even get registered on here? I think the new bleachers are built to move in 10 feet whenever the Cubs are up to bat.
  11. Come on! (said ala Gob Bluth) That picture of Ponson has to be doctored.
  12. Prince Fielder will have 33 RBI against the Cubs this season, bet on it.
  13. That's what everyone said about C Patt.
  14. Just speaking the truth about the best fans in baseball. Joe Buck, is that you?
  15. that's sig material. Your sig rules man.
