2005 OPS

Macias -- .659

Cubois -- .766

Next question, please.

Does the NL have a DH?

Macias is an average defensive OF, no runs above or below average. Dubois is 2 runs below average. Does that make up for 100+ points in OPS?

BTW, I'm not advocating him to start, just that if he is going to pitch that he might as well start. If not, shut him down. We have almost no chance of catching the 'stros.

Houston doesn't trouble me nearly as much as that stack of teams between us ... but it could be done.

Houston's lack of offense will come back to bite them sooner rather then later IMO. We HAVE to take at least 2 of 3 though from Houston this week.

Gotta give Dusty credit for his usage of Wood in this series. Both times he used him when Pujols and Edmonds were up. My guess is that the plan is to use him when Berkman's up in Houston.

And what was Dubois' OPS as a PH???

Some of you guys are just jerks--I am not trying to be argumentative, but come on--Jose Macias is nearly hitting .300 as a sub and you still think he has not done anything--NOT FAIR!!!!!

That's true. The .306 OBP with an average of .293 tells me the guy never takes a walk, which limits his effectiveness.

I'm beating my head against the wall cause Macias didn't take a walk. 4-3 is better than 5-3.

The guys a bench player who can play a bunch of positions. You want to bring back DuBois, who has a lower obp and can't play any positions?

Yeah, Dubois will be a career sub-.300 OBP guy. He's a better offensive player than Macias by a fair margin even with his struggles, if that's what you're asking.

How's he doing w/ Cleveland?

No, but the NL does have PH's.

Some one explain to me why Corey was bunting to begin with.

We needed more nationally televised Baker lunacy.

I fully understand your point. But that was kind of my point without mentioning it. The chance of us getting past numerous other teams and passing the 'stros is so small....I'd almost put it at 1-75.

corey learned a lot in AAA! like how to hit homeruns!

oh wait, he could already do that on rare occasions.

He's improved his approach since coming back. He's putting the ball into play and making solid contact. Dusty was a bimbo for calling a sac bunt there.

Seriously, why bunt Nomar over for Blanco or Barrett when Patterson has already shown he can hit left handed pitching?

No way to tell if its gonna last, but if you think about it, we've got the best of all worlds going right now offensively (at least so far as the Cubs offense can get)...

- Nomar has come back hitting well

- Corey has come back hitting ok and is being patient... ok, maybe not... WHY BUNT, BAKER!!!??? YOU IDIOT!!!!!

- Lee and Aramis aren't totally dead yet, as proved in this series

- We have a leadoff hitter in Lawton

- If Blanco can keep up, even at .275 as compared to his recent .450, we can't go wrong with him in the lineup for Barrett (plus adds more defense)

- Macias and Neifi are coming through with big PHs from time to time, or getting hits when least expected

- Most of our starting pitchers are good for at least 1 hit/timely sacrifice a game

To me, the only thing we're missing is another decent-to-solid offensively OFer (not Burnitz or Hollandsworth) - Murton won't be played much by Dusty - so getting a guy like Griffey would help out immensely, IMO.

I'm not saying we are, or will, make a strong push at the WC... but things are coming together to go on a run. If Hendry believes they are, he needs to make things happen to put the team in the best possible position to do so.
