No way to tell if its gonna last, but if you think about it, we've got the best of all worlds going right now offensively (at least so far as the Cubs offense can get)...

- Nomar has come back hitting well

- Corey has come back hitting ok and is being patient... ok, maybe not... WHY BUNT, BAKER!!!??? YOU IDIOT!!!!!

- Lee and Aramis aren't totally dead yet, as proved in this series

- We have a leadoff hitter in Lawton

- If Blanco can keep up, even at .275 as compared to his recent .450, we can't go wrong with him in the lineup for Barrett (plus adds more defense)

- Macias and Neifi are coming through with big PHs from time to time, or getting hits when least expected

- Most of our starting pitchers are good for at least 1 hit/timely sacrifice a game

To me, the only thing we're missing is another decent-to-solid offensively OFer (not Burnitz or Hollandsworth) - Murton won't be played much by Dusty - so getting a guy like Griffey would help out immensely, IMO.

I'm not saying we are, or will, make a strong push at the WC... but things are coming together to go on a run. If Hendry believes they are, he needs to make things happen to put the team in the best possible position to do so.

Who do you plan on trading for Griffey? You won't be able to pass any prospects through waivers that will get it done.

Agree the Cubs need to add someone who will force Burnitz to the bench. Baker will not play Murton over a vet like Burnitz.

And what was Dubois' OPS as a PH???

Some of you guys are just jerks--I am not trying to be argumentative, but come on--Jose Macias is nearly hitting .300 as a sub and you still think he has not done anything--NOT FAIR!!!!!

That's true. The .306 OBP with an average of .293 tells me the guy never takes a walk, which limits his effectiveness.

I'm beating my head against the wall cause Macias didn't take a walk. 4-3 is better than 5-3.

The guys a bench player who can play a bunch of positions. You want to bring back DuBois, who has a lower obp and can't play any positions?

Yeah, Dubois will be a career sub-.300 OBP guy. He's a better offensive player than Macias by a fair margin even with his struggles, if that's what you're asking.

How's he doing w/ Cleveland?

2005 OPS

Macias -- .659

Cubois -- .766

Next question, please.

Does the NL have a DH?

No, but the NL does have PH's.

According to ESPN, it's .667 compared to Macias' .502. (Regardless, I don't think 12 AB's as a rookie really shows much of anything)

Fred, I have to say this, because it will be the only time it happens regarding stats: I beat you. Ha.

Seriously, though, your stats are ridiculously awesome. Thanks.

Cmon Lawton put this game away. Kerry doesn't have another inning in him.

Which is why Dempster is up in the bullpen.

Dempster will make it interesting. :?

I don't know how it would happen, but you can't disagree that Burnitz/Hollandsworth are not getting it done in RF. Murton is a benchwarmer and very infrequent spot starter as long as Dusty is the guy in the Cubs' manager's seat.

A player named DeJesus had an inside-the-parker today. Forgive my ignorance: is that Ivan DeJesus' son/nephew/something? Anyone know?
