Cub defense given up 2 runs tonight. Love to see a stat on this for this season. Fred?? It's gotta be up there.

Well... so far this year we've given up 28 unearned runs. That's about the best I can do.

Got the Momentum.

Now for the Rusch of adrenaline!!!

Seasons been a joke for the most part, and Baker sucks.

But it sure is nice seeing them kick Redbird tail though, no?

It is my belief that the good luck charm known as Erin Andrews' hotness and cleavage-show brought us the win tonight and series' win over the Cards.

All hail EA'sH&C!!

Hailed.

Well, there's a glimmer of hope after this series.

Gotta take 2 out of 3 in Houston though at least... a sweep would be nice.

Do that and we're back in the hunt.

I do share your optimism, but I don't think 2/3 is enough. We'd only gain one game on them... while 5.5 out with that many left to play isn't a horrible situation, it's not all that much better than where we're at now...

So, how about we just get that sweep you were talking about??

Needs to be a sweep in order for me to even start getting my hopes up again.

If we take 2/3 or even better 3/3 from Houston. There's a chance (albeit it small, and even if it mounts, will be blown in the last weeks anyways) we can make a run at this still.

This is what bothers me most about the Cubs. Not the fact the Cubs told the Cards "not in my house" by taking 3 of 4  , but they raise the hopes of Cubs fans that they might have one serious RUN left in them. If they"BELIEVE" they still have a shot at the Wild Card, then they need to start acting like a contender, and put the engine in 5th gear and go. No more BAD DAYS.

BTW, I'm not advocating him to start, just that if he is going to pitch that he might as well start. If not, shut him down. We have almost no chance of catching the 'stros.

Houston doesn't trouble me nearly as much as that stack of teams between us ... but it could be done.

I fully understand your point. But that was kind of my point without mentioning it. The chance of us getting past numerous other teams and passing the 'stros is so small....I'd almost put it at 1-75.

All four of those teams are in the NL East, so there will be ample chances to make up ground while they play one another ... but I haven't seen this team capitalize on anything in nearly two years, so my renewed enthusiasm is somewhat tempered.

We'll find out what kind of cajones this team has in the next series... if we take 2/3 or sweep, then they want to contend... anything else and its time to start putting the "desire for FB season" into hyperdrive.

Forgot to mention this last night:

Prior's control while warming up in the bullpen before the game was TERRIBLE. He paced around a bit and missed consistently in the dirt and inside to would-be righties. And for the first time that I've seen, they actually had Matt Lawton stand in with a bat in the bullpen for Mark. Then Rothschild stood in from the other side of the plate (but without a bat). With his control last night, I'll take a quality start every time.

i was wondering why lawton was standing in - i'd never seen that before.

I saw macias stand in while Maddux was warming up at a Cubs/Reds game. ITs not uncommon.
