Ok, apparently levine did actually talk about inquiring both, but everyone is saying he sounded unsure of what he was saying. Apaarently, he said "if jim gets his way, they will both be cubs". However, if you listen to the espn 1000 SC they say that he is bugging about soriano and inquiring about dunn OR kearns.

To respond to CT's post, I dont think anythign will go down untill tomorrow. I have absoloutley no inside info whatsoever. I just dont see it happening.

As for both Kearns AND Dunn.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My question is, would that mean that we are moving burnitz somewhere else? possibly for starting pitching? or is he goign to play center :x

not sure if this was posted here but here it is again....fox sports article posted 2 hrs ago predicting the cubs would be the winners of the deadline. Said Soriano moving to left(if he would) would be big, said Mench is on our radar too, and by Manny's picture it says Manny could be the one to end the Cubs curse.... or something along those lines.

Could Hendry be making a play for Soranio to play second base?

Walker, Mitre, Wellymeyer for Soranio ?

Kearns or Dunn for Patterson,Marshall, Koronka?

Exchanging Walker for Soriano at 2B wouldn't really be much of an upgrde. It isn't worth giing up Walker and prospects to get Soriano at second.

I agree. Soriano is, overall, a marginal upgrade over walker, at best. Why give him, PLUS prospects up to get soriano.

All that said, I'm getting frickin excited.

Well, this from Rotoworld gets me thinking...

Rangers acquired first baseman Phil Nevin from the Padres for RHP Chan Ho Park and cash considerations.

As the roster stands now, Nevin will DH against left-handers and some right-handers, with David Dellucci replacing Richard Hidalgo in the outfielders. He could be a full-time player if the Rangers move Hidalgo or Kevin Mench for a pitcher. AL-only leaguers will want to pick him up, but there should be a better use of a top waiver claim. Jul. 30 - 1:07 pm et

What if Hendry is not really focused on Soriano? What if the media just assumes it's Soriano since it's known that Hendry is talking with the Rangers? With the acquistion of Nevin the Rangers have too many bats and Soriano is not the only one the Rangers could be open to dealing. I have no objection to Mench in leftfield!

God, just let it not be Hidalgo please!

The Jackson Sun has a ariticle entitled, "Two Jaxx Players May Be Trade Bait" saying that Hill and Pie might be traded to Texas for Soriano. Said ESPN broadcast this Fri afternoon. Would the Cubs really do this?

I certainly doubt it. Hendry has shown that he doesn't just give up the farm to get the guy he wants, also.

It would be remarkably stupid. I doubt that the person who wrote that article knows much more abouyt what is going on than we do.

I don't think there's a chance Henny gives up Pie. Not for Soriano... or Dunn... or Kerns... or anybody not named A-Rod.

I can't see the Cubs trading Pie, not that the Cubs wouldn't trade him if the right deal came along, but Soriano doesn't appear to be one of those deals and neither does the other rumors (Huff, Kearns, Dunn).

But, I'm sure other teams have asked about Hill and Pie, which is probably the angle they're formulating that statement from.

Some of these people are trying to monitor and predict the actions of 30 teams. Look how much trouble we are having just monitoring one.

Hendry is a very patient man (which I give him tremendous credit for), and I believe he will get his man (hopefully it's Dunn) without having to give up too much.

The more I look at Dunn, the more he just looks like he should be a Cub. I can't quote stats like all you other guys, but he just looks like a Wrigley Field Slugger.... Nasty lookin'

He had absolutely no trouble putting a couple of deep shots out in RF at Petco, something Klesko and Giles have a tough time with.

Per Offman(not sure how reliable he is)- Cubs have shifted gears from soriano and dunn and are now pursuing huff from tampa.

This close to the deadline, is it really possible to know what Hendry is doing? Meaning... isn't everybody.. including all the big time "Sources" kinda waiting until something's official?

I'd be fine with Huff. Sounds to me like Hendry is playing his cards perfectly once again, working those phone lines and moving on to someone else when the opposing GM continues asking for too high of a price.

Of course, some of these GM's might have better offers on hold that they are waiting to see if something better comes along before agreeing to terms. For example, the Dodgers might have an offer good enough for Dunn and Cincy is waiting to see if Hendry will make a better offer.

I would just love to be a fly on the wall in the war room on trade deadline weekend.

He's as reliable as his "sources with the team". Because last night on Murph's show, he asked George why the Cubs were not interested in Huff and George said "Because they're not."

"Why?"

"Because I know they're not."

Impressive.

Unfortunately, changing gears from Texas to Tampa only means that the offers will get even more ridiculous. Lamar won't stop at Pie - he'll probably ask for Zambrano. Jeez, he's probably just pompous enough to ask for Prior.

They couldn't let you in there, you'd see the big board.
