How many people here are taking this thing seriously?

I'm not.

I am taking it as it is. A rumor from an unreliable source. Doesnt mean its wrong. Doesnt mean its right. Just a rumor from an unreliable source.

Too early to tell really if the source is "unreliable" or not. I would say more like the source is "unproven."

I am skeptical of the deal presented. I don't think Jim Hendry would trade Rich Hill or Corey Patterson to Cincinnati. I think Hendry will hold onto Hill, and would only trade Patterson to the AL. And despite what everyone is saying, I don't think Cincinnati trades Dunn to HOU, STL or us, if there is a trade at all. I think they'll shop Griffey, Casey, Pena and Kearns ahead of Dunn. The Dodgers are the most likely NL destination in my humble opinion if there is a dela to be made - they can offer the most (if they want to) and play in the NL West, so the Reds would only see Dunn 6 or 7 times a season as opposed to 17-19 times.

Also, according to a published report today in Minneapolis, the Orioles asked about getting Dunn, and were told by the Reds that the starting point is Erik Bedard and 2-3 other good players/prospects. Baltimore turned it down. I think Kearns is the guy Hendry wants.

*sigh*

Well, I still hope we get dunn.

well, if teams are looking @ Griffey, they've got this to deal with.....

"Griffey is playing with one reminder of the ’04 surgery. Blood still seeps from the incision and occasionally stains his uniform pants. Cubs fans pointed it out during the game Monday night. Griffey shrugged.

"It only hampers my wardrobe," he said, smiling. "There are certain things I won’t wear. I wear dark jeans most of the time due to the fact that if it does start leaking people don’t get grossed out."

I will accept this trade only if the satellites of Austin Kearns are involved...I don't want the player, i want the ears

Color me disgusted.

How in the world do you live with an open wound that continues to leak blood a year after surgery? That can't be good.

If he's gonna be bleedin all over the place, we'd have to start worrying more about a BP of 120 over 80, than an OBP of over .600

I have a feeling you are correct. But I also have a feeling that IF Cincy ships out Dunn, it will be to a team that entertained the idea of Griffey. ESPN listed Griffey's short list of teams, and ironically, HOU was there. As were the usual suspects. But the Cubs were not on that list.

Just as Florida is attempting to get rid of Lowell's contract by dealing him with AJ, I see Cincy attempting to do likewise.

I'm not sure if I'm reading DugoutDollars correctly, but it appears that Griffey is done after '06. If the Reds pickup everything they've deferred, I'd be willing to stomach Griffey in CF/RF for a year and a half, if it meant Dunn in LF, and a placeholder keeping it warm for Pie in CF. Putting Griffey in RF would ensure injury, and give Gerut/Murton/CP/Greenberg etc plenty of playing time at 4th OF.

Griffey's contract runs through 2008, with a team option for '09.

So, ad nauseum this trade has been discussed. I still see the Yanks as potential suitors there.

Yeah, um I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but do you guys think that the Cubs could get Dunn from the Reds? I know he strikes out a lot but we could use a good LF in our lineup.

I just wanted to address this fanzone guy:

I can understand why you think I'm a troll, because I realize there are trolls on other boards who do the exact same thing...but, as I said, this is NOT my intention. No, I'm not e-mailing people telling them what I've done...I'm sure my friends wouldn't care if I started a rumor on an internet message board that wasn't true, and I'm not getting a good laugh from getting people's hopes up. I'm a Cubs fan who's passing along information from a solid source, that's all.

Assuming you are telling the truth, I have this to say: just don't worry about what people think of you right now. Later on, if you're proven right, they'll all like you just fine :). And like others have said, even if a deal doesn't come, that doesn't mean you're a troll, and as long as you stick around and particpate as a regular member, no one will hold this against you.

Whether you're right or not, my fingers are crossed for Dunn.

Edit: and if you are lying, then myself and many others around here have no respect for you, or anyone else who would do something like this if it weren't true. It's childish, pure and simple.

^-- Just in case . . .

And what about that head, it's freakin' huge - like a watermelon on a toothpick!

Its like Sputnick....Spherical, but quite pointy in parts.

He's like a bizzarro Dunn. Dunn's head looks like it's the size of an orange.

Anyway you could re-contact this source today?

Sure, I'll try, but what do you want me to ask him?

For one thing, a little bit more analysis of the possible deal from your friend might really go a long ways in returning some confidence. Maybe you could ask him what would still have to happen to get a deal finalized. Like, are the players finalized, with just a few minor details left? Or are they just talking? Is there any chance that the Cubs would go for Kearns if the Dunn deal falls through?
