it was me who reported hearing the CC for Dunn trade....let me fish around and I'll tell you where it came from.....What I heard was that Cinci offered Dunn for CC and that Cleveland turned the trade down. This was around the first/middle of last week. I think it was on rotowire, but I'll look around and find out for sure....

and it was Sabathia and Davis for Dunn....

That can't be true. The Reds recently turned down a trade for Sabathia for Joe Randa. Dunn>>>>>>>Randa

According to who? I saw one guy on this board say that, but there was never a source.

The only time I heard Sabathia mentioned in a trade with the Reds was for Dunn and that was speculated on last week and earlier this week.

There's no way the Reds would turn down Sabathia for Randa straight up.

They were talking about the Randa for Sabathia rumor over on Redszone a couple days ago.

OMG I CANT TRUST ANY OF YOU, YOU ARE ALL LYING AND TRYING TO TRICK ME/US IN SOME WAY, OMG LIARS.

What are you talking about? A lot of this information is easily confirmed because it is in the public domain...

On another note, there is another report/rumor that the Reds have inquired about trading Adam Dunn for the Indians' CC Sabathia straight up. I just heard it at the beginning of the 7/19 MLB Gameday Audio broadcast for WLW. The report was not confirmed by the Reds but if true, Hendry would definitely be giving up too much in Patterson, Mitre, and Hill.

I'm just telling you what they said on the radio in Cincy. You're welcome to check out the broadcast.

No. I'm not saying you're giving false info. I think the report is false. Sorry for the confusion.

It's ok. I just dont want to be labeled as someone who posts false information. I was just passing along something that others can check out. Thanks for clarifying

There's no way in heck the Indians would trade Sabathia to anybody let alone for Adam Dunn.

This isn't where I read it though....but found this searching for it......

Dunn for just CC.

Hendry better be on the phone because we can definitely put together a better package.

Too many rumors going around. My head hurts.

Yeah but I'm not for raiding our system for one guy. If the Reds are willing to get less we shouldn't be serving up all our goodies. LOL

Sabathia has really been struggling. He's losing favor among the fans. I'm not saying they'll trade him, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

They can have Thomas Jones, but Hinrich's a keeper

Can we give up such valueable monster arms?

The thread was not locked up because the Cubs are currently playing the Reds, and we are approaching the trade deadline. Whether it's Adam Dunn or Austin Kearns, there has been news of a potential trade between the two teams. If this thread were locked, there would certainly be a new one regarding Adam Dunn.

To answer the question of why Adam Dunn? He's exactly what this team needs. If Dunn would or could be traded, then it would stand to make sense that Hendry get involved and see what it would take to land him.

As far as strike outs. The Cubs led the league in strike outs (pitching and hitting) in 2003. The Cubs went to the playoffs that year. While not all outs are created equal, a strike out is just another way to make an out. Many HOF caliber players led their respective leagues in strike outs. It's what those players do with the bat when they aren't striking out that makes them valuable.

Adam Dunn is (in my mind) comparable to Jim Thome. A guy with good plate patience, tremendous power and a high K rate. While Thome hit for higher average in his prime, Dunn can play other positions other than 1b, and also appears to have a bit better speed than Thome.

The Cubs worst offensive stat is still OBP. Dunn addresses that. Leaving Hairston and Walker at the top of the order will also address that. Overall, the addition of Adam Dunn gives the team improvement in OBP, OPS, left/right balance in the heart of the order, more youth. The sacrifice appears to be defense, but I don't recall the last good defender we had in left field anyway.

By trading for Adam Dunn, the Cubs end up with 6 guys at the top of the order that all can produce .350+ OBP. While OBP isn't the be all, end all of offensive statistics, I certainly like what it does for teams that also have good SLG's, something the Cubs already have. Combine that with a solid pitching staff, and I just see a trade for Adam Dunn as the one piece to the puzzle that fits and lifts this team into the playoffs. Add Nomar and Williamson to the mix, and I don't see how this team can miss the playoffs. Probably won't catch the Cardinals, but the wild card seems to be the lucky spot to be in these days anyway.

[brown nose]Nice post tripple B!. Kind of sums everything up. Adam Dunn is not Babe Ruth. Nobody said he was even Barry Bonds or Derrek Lee. However, he so clearly fits a glaring need for the Cubs it is damn near impossible not to recognize.[/brown nose]

Mr/Mrs. Troll recognized the hot debate that is Dunn and is now getting his jollies somewhere else. All the best to you, wherever you are.

I can't believe I didn't pick up on that, I'm a Bucs fan too! I even remember noticing Pittman's massive arms in a picture before too.

Actually, I think you're right. Damnit.

The chances that Pittman's arms are "all-natural" are about as good as the chances that the rumor that started this ridiculously long thread is true.
