Well that was no bueno. Gonna need a better effort than that if the Cubs want to officially get to October tomorrow.

Gausman has a good postseason history but struggles against the Padres' big boppers. Pivetta hasn't pitched much this year but has been good when healthy. We absolutely have to get to him early to have any chance; the Padres' key relievers are all fresh and rested and will be able to take over the game at a moment's notice.

Will share a By The Numbers post early this afternoon as well. Go Cubs.

Gausman is banged up, by his own admission doesn't really know how well he's feeling, and has been lit up in 1/3 of his starts with the Cubs. Not a recipe for optimism!

Seems like sending Shota out for an inning Sunday was kinda dumb knowing how precarious the pitching situation is.  He would have likely been a much better option yesterday or today with hindsight being 20/20.

He threw 12 pitches. That was pretty much just a bullpen session against live hitters. He can go if needed. I think Gausman will be more of an opener then Couns will play match ups. Hopefully he can at least make it out of the 1st unscathed.

traded a top 50-75 prospect for two months of a guy that can't even crack the playoff rotation on this garbage ass pitching staff. maybe not the best use of resources.

Holmes' HR/9 is only 0.55 as a Cub, so it's not the virus.😁
