Diamondbacks lose! cubs only lose 0.5 games off their lead and remain 3 up in the loss column with 15 to play and hold the tiebreaker. So essentially still 4 up

Yes the cubs play is depressing but I’ll take whatever good news we can get…

Tonight’s results dropped the Cubs to 96.7% odds of making the playoffs, down 3.1% from their peak of 99.8% last Saturday.  At their highest point in 2023 their playoff odds were at 95.4%.

They scored at a 6.2 runs/game clip through 70 games from June 11th-August 31st. That pace wasn’t sustainable. Add Jordan Alvarez and we’ll talk. The only constant is a replacement level pitching staff.
 

Any regression from the offense will derail the season, and that’s how it’s played out over the first 9 games in September.

One more thing, horsefeathers Milwaukee.

Cubs Pythagorean win expectancy vs actual wins since 2023:

•2023: 90-72 vs 83-79 at +96

•2024: 88-74 vs 83-79 at +67

•2025: 96-66 vs 92-70 at +144

•2026: 85-62 vs 81-66 at +128

92-70 162 game expected record vs 86.75-75.25 actual 162 game pace. People calling the Cubs inconsistent don’t know what they’re talking about.

I never want to hear a word about the 'pitching lab.'

Either hurt or ineffective is all it has produced. Sure a pop up reliever, but the Cubs aren't unique in that. Happens every team every year.

Jed should be flogged for basically doubling down on a horsefeathers staff. 

What you get bargain bin shopping, then buying band aids at the deadline. 

Can't wait to do it all again next year.

I agree. Cubs off season wish list for me would be to sign Holmes, trade for another starting pitcher, sign the best pen arm on the market and keep Seiya. Fill the other outfield spot with a platoon, using minor leaguer and/or lower budget signing. They should have the money for this.

The concerning one for me is that even previously good pitchers became completely awful as soon as they show up. Zef, Cabrera, Gausman (has had half his starts go well) all went from being good to being home run pitchers instantly after becoming Cubs.
