MLB insider Ken Rosenthal reported Friday that the Cubs and Miami Marlins agreed on a Luzardo trade ahead of the new year. However, the Cubs backed out, citing concerns over Luzardo's back and elbow.

That allowed the Phillies, fresh off their first NL East crown since 2011, to swoop in and add the 27-year-old lefty only days before Christmas.

Ok, my bad. That said, if they didn’t like the medicals they shouldn’t make the deal. Maybe the Phillies have a better medical staff to keep things in check. Considering all the pitchers that have done down for the Cubs, that is a real possibility.

I didn't say anything like that, I just said that he's good and it would have worked out well for the cubs if they didn't back out

Well actually you did say you would like to avoid that trio. My point is, they hit 2 of those 3 guys pretty well and the other they didn’t face. But the other has been struggling as much as guys like Imanaga and Boyd, the month of August. And we see how much Cubs fans trust those guys. Maybe not you specifically, but several posters have suggested the Cubs can’t beat the Phillies because of their rotation. Never mind we hit their main guys. Never mind our offense and defense is far superior to the Phillies. They have 3 studs at the front of the rotation the Cubs can’t touch. So Cubs can’t compete.

Anyone making a ‘oh no the Phillies’ argument probably needs to explain the 100 run difference in the RD between us and them. Besides ‘well in the playoffs everyone else’s pitchers will pitch better but ours obviously won’t, that would be crazy’

Phillies have a brutal schedule coming up, with 2 series vs. ATL, plus series with the Brewers and Rays

Yep - now Cubs need to capitalize and do their part

Is it me or is part of the pitchers mound behind Shota blurred out? Is it an advertisement thing? Budweiser is superimposed to the right of the mound.

Yep, Marlins probably have their own ad written on the mound

What a dismally awful place to play baseball. Top 3 worst (with Tampa and Texas)??

I kind of like their stadium. All they need is fans lol.

I've never understood why. It's in a desirable area to live, the heat and dolphins do well there. Why wouldn't the Marlins? You'd figure with the large latin american population they would do a lot better.

I’m not scared of the Phillies but I do think that series becomes much more even if the Cubs need to play it in Philly.  Best to handle business this month and ensure a home series

Of course. I think no matter who the competition you would rather play at home. But both the Cubs and Phillies have similar records home or on the road. Rather be home, but they can beat them in Phillie if they have to play them on the road.
