Win some damn games. The division is a nonissue, we'd have to sweep all 7 to put that on the table and that's obviously not going to happen.

Jed did everything he could to address pitching at the deadline but it seems like it's not going to be nearly enough.  Very frustrating.

I’m not sure that’s true. Yes, they aren’t playing well. But even a 10-15 finish means BOTH the Padres and Dbacks could only lose 9 games the rest of the season. Dbacks have 24 games left and Padres 25. And they play each other 3. That can happen, but pretty unlikely. So they should make the playoffs. If they have a set rotation with Holmes pitching game one and then either Boyd or Gausman next AND guys like Miller, Cabrera, Steele and even Wiggins are in the pen instead of some of the guys there now, they can advance. Doesn’t even have to be all those arms, they just need 3 pen arms pitching well. As far as home field goes, Cubs road record is just as good as their home record. If they play the Phillies, they are the same home or away. While this team is very frustrating, they truly have enough talent to beat anyone. They can do it at home or on the road. They just need their pitchers to be their best selves. There is enough talent in the staff where if they are pitching well they can win. This isn’t like last year where we had to piece things together. Cubs just need good pitchers to be good in the playoffs. Doesn’t matter if they get in 4,5 or 6. Doesn’t matter if they win 87 or 92. Just get in and see what happens.

all they need is four guys (three of which haven't thrown a major league pitch all season and one who has stunk all season), to come back, be healthy and be good and they'll be perfectly fine.

Nice editing. Way to leave out the next sentence where I said doesn’t have to be all those arms, they just need 3 pen arms pitching well.
That doesn’t mean the 4 you mentioned are the 3 arms. It could be Zepherjohn, Webb, Palencia, Rolison, Theilbar, Civale or any of those 4 guys. Point is, there may be several other options come the playoffs. There isn’t a 13th pitcher on a playoff roster. The staff is shortened. Between now and the end if the season CC needs to find his circle of trust in the pen.
Sure, if they can’t find 3 or 4 pen arms out of that collection of guys they aren’t winning.

Losers of 4 of the last 5 series, including the Cards, Mariners, and Reds, is not a great way to be starting the final month of the season.

There are a lot of options and different combinations of guys but none of them exude any confidence.  Also, did Miller have a setback? He was supposed to pitch back to back for the first time this weekend but he was taken out early on Friday and never pitched on Saturday.

I get that, and agree. But they have a month to figure out who those guys can be. And all of them, at one time or another this year, have pitched well. It isn’t unfathomable he can find some arms that get the job done. That said, whoever he does land on, I will still not be confident in him. That is just being a fan. Even a team with a great pen, their fans are nervous and worried when protecting a one run lead.

Nevermind a one run lead, I'm nervous trying to protect a 3 run lead.

People are way overrating the Phillies, I'm not saying the Cubs will surely beat them.  But, they're not some unbeatable super team, their not overall superior to the Cubs and are very, very, beatable.

It's been the running theme all season with Cubs' pitchers of course, he had an injury setback.  Don't know why there's any doubt.

Not sure why I was quoted in your posts. Unless you are adding to what I said. Because I agree with you. I would say the Dodgers and the Brewers are better than the Cubs. But even in a series against them, IMO, cubs have probably a 45% -47% chance of winning. Against the rest of the  league it is probably 50/50 or better. They can win. And if they do it will be because CC found a few guys who produced when called on.

Wasn't calling you out, just making a point the some are putting too much stock in the greatness of the Phillies.

What do people think about, tonight, playing Shaw at SS, Nico back to 2B and moving Busch way down in lineup to 8th maybe, 9th?

No. I wouldn’t do this.

BJ Murray finally getting the call up, hes a SH who can play 1B,3B, and LF.

Maybe he'll be giving Busch some rest against Lefties or rest in general

I'd pencil him in at 1B tonight.  Busch is really slumping and why can't the Cubs, for once, catch lightning in the bottle with a call up?  Every other horsefeathers team pulls this horsefeathers out their collective asses, why can't the Cubs?

They got good production from Pedro, he kinda saved them a bit when guys were getting hurt and slumping a bit.

But yea, it would be nice if Murray came up and automatically has a hot week or two filling in for guys

All of it?  What about moving Busch down in the order?

I can see Busch moved down. But not 9th. In fact, he might not even play today if Murray is up. Not sure who he is up for unless they release Arias. I get the idea of Shaw at SS. Means only one spot is weakened defensively. But he might be a big step down from Dansby at SS. 🤷 which is better? One big drop in defense or two smaller drops?

I mean Pedro has gotten quite lucky but I think he still counts here and a slightly above average hitter is probably the most we can expect out of Murray.
