Probably pulled through AI search. SI is all AI generated now since they laid off 3/4 of their writers.  Post probably the same.

We are having a Reid-off and I am here for it.

I don't know if this goes down or something else does. But Garrett sounds like he's more of a team pet project to whom they traded two guys they weren't going to add to the 40-man. So I know the initial reaction is to think Garrett is tied to this, but I don't share that.

At least they SHOULDN'T be related.  Garrett likely shouldn't see the big league field in 2026.

It does not sound like that's the plan. This is closer to the Dodgers getting Kris Bubic than anything.

Yeah , Garrett has nothing to do with Detmers . He is a project and depth . With that said the Detmers thing is concerning and the best pen arm went to pit . In a wired where yhry don’t add another SP , they probably need 2 impact pen arms

The team is in a weird spot with SP depth.  Rea and Peterson can't go to Iowa, Assad really doesn't deserve to be sent back down, none of the kids at Iowa would be a viable option in case of a couple injuries.

I really think Rea (or Peterson?) is about to get moved.  And also the team needs several SPs heading into next year.

Is Twitter (or X) still a thing?  There was a short time when it was a great place to follow sports updates, but I gave up on that mess years ago.  I don't even know where people go to get updates anymore, so I just rely on things being reposted here.

But if they do like Garret after this year that lessens the need to add a controllable starting pitcher. Opens up other options like Holmes or Mize. Maybe even gives them a LITTLE leverage.

It's still the best place for sports updates. You can use threada or bluesky if you want but they don't get as much traction and arent as quick with the info as Twitter is.

I'm hearing things from a few sides.

One person who I think we should all believe when it comes specifically to pitching mentioned Zombro-project. The Cubs are looking to win playoff games...it's not time for a project. I think this is a 2027 plan. It might mean they go two rentals, but I don't think Rogers is here to pitch in 2026 for the Chicago Cubs.

  • Outshined_One changed the title to Cerami: SP Reid Detmers to the Cubs...maybe. Maybe not. (Developing)

Trueblood is saying braxton garrett was the pivot when Detmers fell through

just incredibly pathetic by the front office if true

I think two things can be true at once, however. It can be a Detmers pivot: if you get Clay Holmes and Kevin Gausman the rotation is much better. Then you give Garrett over to Zombro as a project who could help the team in 2027 with innings.

That isn't a bad plan. I get we'd all love the controlled SP now, but Gausman, Holmes a good RP...it's a deadline that for 2026 is pretty good. Cheap. And you still have someone for next year out of it.

That's exactly where my mind went as well.  So be it.

No offense to Trueblood , but that’s just complete stupidity . How in the world would Garrett be a pivot from Detmers ? A pivot would be to get Clay Holmes or a couple of relievers
