Trying to trade? No. But willing to trade either for the right package? Yes. They're both available, however. The Cubs have a unique situation where they could offer the right now offense (not Suzuki) that could push them off.

I don't blame the Cubs on being out because they need multiple pitchers, not one. They can still "go for it" but they need to spread those assets out and not funnel them all into one player.

I think they just really like Ryan and valued him more than most of us causal folks do. Seeing reports they wanted Henderson from the Brewers. Brown would be the one that fits that mold on our team.

Again, it feels rushed if you don't love the package. But there comes a point where:
1. If you love the package
2. Believe that the Rays and the Brewers are maxed out

That you just get it over with. The Tigers still have to move Mize and getting one done and dusted is important in that. They've set the market; that helps with the Mize thing, too.

Yeah. I think the Tigers just really, really like River Ryan. That's my best read.

Basically calling him equivalent to Ben Brown or Logan Henderson, yeah they must absolutely love Ryan.

This + every team that was in on Skubal is in on other SP. They all know the Skubal domino needed to fall first, so I’m guessing teams had their best offer in on Sat (hence why we were out early Saturday) and/or Tigers sent what they would need from each team to accept early and LAD accepted. Skubal not being moved until right before the deadline would have been a nightmare for teams trying to acquire him + land their backup plans in such a short time.

If there’s ever a wake up call for Jed it’s facing the team with the second best AL record lining up Fried and Cols against David Peterson and Collin Rea, with Tarik with the possibility of facing Skubal Tomorrow. Nothing wrong with a rental as a plan b.

It is if they need to work other deals, Mize, etc. Again, they must really like the Ryan package. I think they sent what they wanted from each team, and the Dodgers accepted.

According to Trueblood the Cubs are trying to trade for Detmers without including Ayers .  Angels want two top prospects

I love predictive metrics as much as the next guy, but hasn't he been around long enough to evaluate his results? The guy has a career 4.61 era. The K% is nice, but he must be giving up loud contact when he doesn't miss bats.

You do know the guy he is today isn't the guy he was four years ago, right? Why do we care about his career ERA? 

He's got a top-15 xFIP pitching in front of a bad team and a very low LOB% that won't keep. He's whiffing guys far more right now than ever before. He's about as good as he was this year as last, except he's back in the rotation. The way he's pitching right now, he's pitching like a guy you put near the top of a rotation and don' think twice about it.

The reason he's available is because he hasn't always done that. But if he had, he wouldn't be available. So you have to take the good with the bad here.
