Do we like Soriano or nah?

He would be a great get.  Easily one of the best SP potentially available, especially beyond this year if the walks can come down

I predict the Cubs get him within an hour to go before the deadline

Asking price is a little too high. I'm hearing the Cubs weren't expecting the South Bend bullpen catcher to be on the trade proposal. Now, they're going to have to rethink some things.

As a pitcher he's legit but he throws hard as hell and he's already had had two TJs which gives me the heebie jeebies.

I'd probably prefer any of the other multi-year starters over him, but I'd much rather have Soriano than any of the rentals?

If it's true that the Mariners are making George Kirby available.... that becomes my personal favorite target.  Great pitcher.  Wonder what it would take.  Rojas + Ramirez?

Cubs need to get an OF and sit Happ againts lefties . He is completely worthless as a RH bat . Don’t worry about hurting feelings

Hope is a major prospect, but seems light for Skubal. Obviously more could be involved, but Hope also seems too good of a prospect for most of the other guys available so maybe it is for Skubal?

Tigers were rumored to be looking for a young SP as well . From the Dodgers , Sheehan has been mentioned .

Hartshorn wasn't in the lineup tonight either

Probably just a day off, but giving your very best prospect an off day 2 days before the TDL is certainly something.

Skubal has to be the only player we’d trade him for anyways I’m guessing? And I don’t see us doing that. I don’t think we have enough nor would Jed be comfortable doing it anyways especially if it involved Hartshorn and Ben Brown or some combination.

Maybe “don’t have enough” is a bit strong, but I don’t see us beating whatever the Dodgers are offering

About 48 hours left

I figure teams on the borderline of contention want to wait as long as possible before deciding to sell off or not.

Even an injury in the few couple of days to one of their better players who wouldn't even be on the block would change a team's calculations.

I saw on fangraphs that the Tigers have the 5th highest protected winning % the rest of the season.  The Cubs are projected to go 27-25.

Possibly. He’s the only other guy that comes to mind. I’ll let the smarter posters than me on this board answer that though lol

Whoever wins the highest bid on Skubal is definitely going to give up a lot,  Wonder if there's a comparitive pitcher in recent years ago was traded at TDL to compare.

Can't think of a better player to have for a playoff run than an elite TOR.  Sad to say, but similar to how we used Chapman in 2016, teams are probably even more willing to ride a rental pitcher hard in the playoffs if they don't have to worry about injury repercussions don't the road.
