This all happened because PTR demanded construction crews dig under Wrigley for a new VIP Club, despite knowing that an Ancient Egyptian tomb had been buried for thousands of years under the field.

Little did he know what they'd unleash.

Didn't all Ben Brown's weird injury problems last year begin with a "neck strain"?

He did have a neck strain last year.

The Cubs have 9 SPs listed on their MLB.com depth chart and 6 are currently on the IL, 2 of them for the second time. Plus 4 relievers.

That was 2 years ago and it broke him for a while.

Somehow Colin Rea and Javier Assad will crack heads while reaching for the last shrimp on the buffet table, concussing each other

Assad is due for another oblique injury.

Totally normal. Dont even think about questioning the medical staff.

The Cubs aren't even in the top-10 according to this metric. You can buy this specific one or not; that's really not the point. But there are 29 other teams and what the Cubs are going through isn't so special. They have faced a lot of injuries. Other teams have as well. This idea that it's the training staff is just searching for an answer to a question when the correct one is right in front of you, but you just don't like it because there isn't an easy scape goat.

Cubs opening day rotation...

Boyd IL, Cabrera IL, Horton IL, Taillon IL, Imanaga, and Steele was projected to be back in June, now it August and bullpen only.  Wiggins IL, waiting in the wing

Today the rotation looks like...

Assad, Imanaga, Rea

Boyd due back Thursday,  and ????

Plus a depth of guys that cant get AAA hitters out 🙄🙄

Go Cubs 😂

Yeah, if every guy was tearing a labrum or having the same weird injury that's not a UCL, I'd lean that direction but this is just an insane random assortment of injuries with no apparent rhyme or reason.  I mean, it's clearly the training staff's fault that Cabrera lost his footing last night and his groin exploded.

I'll buy the metrics but also if anyone can point to an example of a team missing 80% of its opening day rotation, would love to see it. let's not miss the forest for the trees, this was a bad staff at the beginning of the year, and it's absolutely awful at the moment.

anyways, there's an actual game going on, hoerner/ramirez/amaya wasted a happ leadoff double, assad getting wild in the second inning.

Is there a metric that Adjusts for projected war/innings?

Fangraphs does have an injury section of their Roster Resource but I'm getting 500 Error when I load up roster resource right now. Not sure if it's a popup/adblock setting on my chrome or just down right now.

there was one floating around yesterday showing something like 'wasted money' which didn't do projected war but at least weighed it for amount of salary sitting on the IL. though i guess, and this is a response to my post too....it's not like the training staff does (or should) only focus on the good players. the hitters have stayed very healthy, the pitching staff (and the few good pitchers especially) have exploded.

i'll maintain that there's somethings that can be done as an organization to help (avoid certain mechanics, teach away from certain mechanics, high stress pitching controls, etc) and that it's not just rolling a 1,000 side die on every pitch and hoping it doesn't come up with 'injury'. but it's mostly just bad luck.

also, as bad as it looks at this particular moment, we're on an 85 win pace and need to restock pitching going forward anyways. get pitching for this year, get pitching for next year, just get some horsefeathers pitching

I think Fangraph's is having issues right now. It started giving me fits about 10 minutes ago
