They can’t released 12 position players, but if nothing else I think they pretty much have to fired the hitting coach tonight and see if something changes .

I am really worried about Bregman now . Alcantara needs to go to AAA . He absolutely can’t get double up on a line drive to the other side of the diamond on that situation .   Jed Hoyer has a big mess in his hands with this roster .

The good news is that the majority of them will be FA at seasons end .

I kind of gave up on Bregman, already.  But, Nico needs to get better (well, Dansby and Seiya, too).  I don't even remember Nico sucked offensively for this long in the past.  He had been the most consistent hitter, and now, he's consistently bad.  I love Nico.  I even named my brother's puppy Nico last year.  I'm sure he'll get better, but we need him now.  Nico hits, we win.  It's simple (hopefully).

Just awful baserunning by Alcantara.  He got bailed out on the previous play and then made another mistake on the next one.

His baserunning is not ready for prime time.

I don't understand how an offense with mostly good hitters can roll over completely limp for a solid month every year.

People need to start losing their jobs.

With that said, I consider the season over.

Maybe with Hoyer's Red Sox connections we can unthaw the cryogenically frozen head of Ted Williams (true story) and he can figure out this mess.

187 with runners in scoring position. That’s his slug by the way. What it his signature game or moment as a Cub so far? The home run in LA to tie it at 4?

so glad bregman is batting cleanup.

I was stoked when they signed Bregman, no problem admitting it (I also really dont pay close attention to the mlb outside the cubs)

But in hindsight, giving a guy a 5 year 175 million dollar deal when all those years  are going to be outside of his physical prime (26-31 years old) is just insane.

The Heyward deal was bad, but atleast he was only 26 when he signed.

The Dansby deal is bad but he was atleast 29 with a few more years of conceivable prime left him.

Bregman was/is 32...

Especially after locking up Nico when you already have a solid and cheap middle infield option in Shaw. Bregman was a nice luxury signing on paper but he’s been mostly a failure. He’s usually good for going 1/4 with a single or 1/4 with a BB on a good day.

Yeah I was very happy when he signed, but man, he is the kind of putrid signing that makes ownership say “never again” when it comes to signing UFA’s.

I think a lot of us had reservations about signing Bregman.  I'm not a big fan of Matt Shaw, but I thought he could give us 80% of the production and the money could be spent on pitching.

Bregman has had a nice career,  but his best seasons were almost 10 years ago.  It seemed like a risky signing at the time,  but they were apparently in love with his makeup and leadership, which doesn't seem to be helping much.

Hope it turns around.

The Cubs’ three biggest contracts given out are Heyward, Swanson, and Bregman. All three might turn out to be bad contracts. With that said, of the four FA SSs in the winter of 2022 that were signed (Swanson, Turner, Correa, Bogaerts), Dansby has accumulated the most WAR of all of them in the last 3.5 years.

This offense over the last 30 days has been so unbelievably abysmal that Bregman is actually 4th in wRC+ at 90 among the qualified bats.

I mean, look at this horsefeathers and tell me what configuration you believe we should see.

PCA 147

Busch 139

Happ 113

Bregman 90

Kelly 69

Amaya 105

Conforto 63

Nico 57

Seiya 52

Dansby 32

Mo 27

It really is that bad.
