Seriously which baseball god did we piss off this season?

Shrug. Pitchers break. Especially pitchers who already have an injury history.

The Cubs should be drafting more high level arms (and getting more out of IFA) so they have better depth to overcome inevitable injuries.

I do not like pitching prospects

Is there a point anymore in using top draft picks on pitchers?.  They can barely stay on the field and when they do it's only for 5-6 IP per start.

The Theo formula worked pretty well.

Lol sureeee. Just like a week ago it a was just a "change in approach" Wiggins seems even more fragile than Horton.

Honestly can he just get the TJ now and get it over with?

Chances any of this has to do with the new pitching lab and infrastructure?

Probably none. It isn't like Tread is brand new.

Instead, it's way more likely that "this is what pitchers do" and we are just getting hit with it all at once.

Everyone complained incessantly when we had the softest tossing staff in the league.  That was not wrong, but insulating ourselves (somewhat) from this nonsense was part of the calculus.

And we finally have a few meaningful hard throwing pitching prospects/young pitchers.

What does stink is it appears the 2nd TJS is now happening sooner than the 7-ish year gap we used to think it would take.

It doesn't seem like it's gonna get any better. Maybe if they start developing bionic UCLs. Or maybe in another 20 years the 6 inning starting pitcher is just not going to exist

Jaxon Wiggins is throwing a live bullpen this weekend, per Carter Hawkins on The Score this morning.

Given that it's happening in Arizona and with the way the season is going, I fully expect him to be out for the season following a chupacabra attack during that session.

It's their MO: they draft pitchers who are already dealing with arm issues, have little record of sustained success, and have "stuff".

If anything, it's their draft philosophy and always looking for "value," or arbitrage, or whatever the current jargon is for getting players to sign under slot.

Calling the Cubs cheap in the draft is objectively stupid.

Who said they were cheap horsefeathers? As is your want, you take something, twist it to fit whatever the hell you want, and then post nonsense. They signed Shaw for under slot and used the money to sign Wiggins for over slot.

You did.  It's right there.

And it's especially funny that you said it in reference to Wiggins who signed for $300K above slot.  Like I said, objectively stupid.

That's not what I wrote.

If anything, I think the Cubs don’t take enough risks under Kantrovitz on the power pitching side (or pitching period, since I’m guessing their draft models will always prefer the safer hitter).

They signed Shaw for slot. They used late day 2 pick savings to sign Wiggins over slot.
