Why is Sanoja upside a career backup but Shaw is too valuable to give up 6 years of control? They hit about the same last year and Sanoja is younger. They would get 5 years of control for him. I mean, I wouldn’t complicate the trade so much, but it isn’t a drastic  overpay. I would rather just do Cassie or Alcantara for Cabrera and leave thr others out of the deal. But I don’t think the overpay is massive.

Are we just ignoring the entirety of the time in the minor leagues, the scouting reports or that Shaw was worth twice as much fWAR last year even though they hit similarly because Shaw has become a plus defender at 3B and looks to be a 25-30 SB guy? Please don't make me defend Shaw, it makes me feel gross.

If this ends up like I think it will ( Gallen + backup 3B )  underwhelming offseason especially for a team that made the playoffs .

There still offseason left , but they will need to make a trade for a SP and sign an impact bat for me to salvage it .

Everyone keeps mentioning Gallen, like it's a sure thing.  As soon as his agent starts talking contract terms the Cubs might fold again.

Just because people mention guys doesn’t mean they have him penciled onto the team. They are just making suggestions. We don’t have to be reminded every time we make a suggestion of how inept some people perceive our FO to be.

No doubt Shaw is better. But Alcantara for Cabrera might be light for the Marlins. I would rather just add either Brown, Wicks, or Assad to the deal and see if that got it done. But if additional players from each side had to be added, I would think those add ons would have to favor the Marlins. You are most likely correct, Shaw and Sanoja added slants it too much to the Marlins.

Yeah fwiw I just eyed Sanoja as an extra piece if we wanna kill two birds with one stone and have noted that the ask on starting pitchers has been insanely high. I would rather NOT trade both Shaw and Alcantara in a deal like that but sometimes you have to bite the bullet.

I kinda hope they don't sign someone before Cubs convention. Maybe the fans will boo Ricketts. It would be embarrassing for him to get bood at the 10 year WS anniversary.

Doesn't he skip the convention every year to avoid getting booed?

Only when the team doesn't do anything noteworthy in the offseason, or seems like it's going into tank mode.

So like 90% of them then?

I do wonder if there's a young 3B out there that we could do a challenge trade with.  Like Owen Caissie for Jace Jung lets say?

The problem with the current crop of Iowa bats isn't IMO with the bats themselves, it's the reduncancy across them.  If you can diversify that just a bit I think it helps a lot of pieces on the roster fit more snugly together.

So losing out on Imai, Cubs had to have a plan B ready, right? So moves should start soon, if there are to be any.

I say strap in for another long offseason of waiting.

Gallen wouldn’t be my first choice, but I disagree that he doesn’t fit the narrative on improving the staff, I also would rather make a trade, but Gallen would be a solid pick up. Thr issue is they then won’t have enough to add a bat. And I don’t see many available in a trade.

If it's Gallen then they need to add a big bat also, which is probably fine.

The problem is if they add Gallen they don’t have money for a big bat unless they go over the LT. Which is why a trade for a pitcher and signing at bat is more likely if they are going to add 2 pieces.

The Cubs signing Gallen is far far from a sure thing with the QO attached.

They have signed Swanson and lost a draft pick. They gain one with Tucker, so I don’t think it is impossible.

I wouldn’t trade Shaw. Use Cassie or Alcantara and add Brown, Wicks OR Assad(pick one) to get a pitcher. If you have to add on, then no one in the teams top 10 prospects. That should get a decent controlled starting pitcher.

I like Caissie and Mo but at the end of the day one is a corner OF and the other is a DH who is a below average catcher/1b.  Those are the easiest positions to replace so a trade doesn't kill us.  Shaw is harder to replace.

But a SP shouldn't be hard to acquire in FA either especially this offseason but here we are.

I just want this crappy ownership to spend some of the money we give them on the product we pay for.  Grab a big bat and big arm in FA, keep the prospects and go win.

Yeah probably.  Which is why this org sucks

He was there last year. It's the 10 year WS anniversary so he should show up. But maybe he knows he'll get boo'd and won't.

Convention crowd dont boo, those are the true blue Kool ade drinkers that cheer for everyone.  Ricketts will come out and talk about last season playoff appearance and 2016 to get them all cheering and then high tail off the stage....

They do boo Ricketts. That is why he missed a few years.

Has he actually missed? I thought he always did the opening but stopped doing the owner’s panel.

It’s my dream to one day become a billionaire, buy a sports club and still be too cowardly that I don’t attend fan events because of some booing.

Sounds exhausting.

Maybe I am wrong. He might be at all but not do Q&A panels because he has gotten booed previously. Either way, the point is, he did get booed previously.

Right, he comes out in the beginning of them on day 1 for a couple minutes, and there was a couple years they canceled the Q&A panel with the owners.

the only time he recieved some boos was when he talked about marquee being the new home to televise games but they haven't come to sn agreement yet with xfinity and others, that when he told everyone theyll be applauding him the next convention cause theyll love marquee...lol, he lucked out cause Covid canceled it the next year.
