Two years in this format and the SEC is 3-6 when not playing SEC teams. The highest ranked opponent among those 3 was #12.

Maybe there's a lesson to be learned.

I'd say that whatever is currently going on with NIL has more to do with it than the playoff format.

I wasn't saying the format was a reason. Just that maybe, NIL or otherwise, however the field is determined should not be bending over backwards to protect their teams like what happened this year.

Maybe. But that seems like an overreaction to two years.

This year, I’ll give you maybe Notre Dame should have been in over Bama. But you could argue the weird ACC tiebreaker kept ND out because it enabled JMU and Tulane to both get in. But besides Notre Dame, I’m not sure there’s an argument for another team over one of the SEC teams.

Maybe this whole NIL thing is a turning point. The SEC always got the benefit of the doubt because they generally were better than the other conferences. If they do continue to struggle in the playoff, they’ll likely stop getting the benefit of the doubt.

Notre Dame was upset Miami even got in, right?  I’d say they’ve some egg on their face now.

That was a great game last night, wow.  That’s what the CFP is supposed to deliver.

Skipping from 4 to 12 teams was a mistake. 8 seems like the sweet spot (and would eliminate the first-round bye problem).

Eliminating the exclusivity of the Army Navy game weekend would help accelerate the process as well.

Playing the quarters and semis in December with the CFP title game on Jan 1 would also solve the transfer portal window problem

They should have gotten in but their anger should have been towards Alabama

It would be hilarious if Indiana won and we got 3 Big Ten National Champions in 3 years. So much for SEC dominance.

I think the current situation is far too volatile and messed up to continue as it has though, a bunch of stuff has to change in NIL, playoff formatting, etc everything

Notre Dame was (rightfully) angry that they’d been ranked above Miami for weeks, neither team played and then Miami jumped them after the conf champ games. They were also upset Bama got thumped by Georgia but didn’t drop despite BYU getting thumped by Tech and dropping.

Had Miami been ranked ahead of Notre Dame the whole time, I don’t think Notre Dame would have cared about Miami getting in. So it was less about Miami specifically and more about the process.

They should have been behind Miami all along.

Not that I don't want IU to win, but the same would be true if Oregon wins the natty.

There ... I fixed you're blasphemy. 😁

It's admittedly hilarious walking around my north suburban neighborhood and seeing all of the IU flags that have come out of the woodwork.

I'm happy they finally have something to celebrate, but it's admittedly hilarious that these houses have had zero sports-related merch up over the last few years.

The SEC dominance is over.  That’s what is important here 👍👍

Beyond that, GO IU.

I know Oregon has turned it over 3 times and Indiana took advantage which makes the score look worse, but Indiana has been all over them defensively anyway and Oregon hasn't been able to stop Indiana's offense.

So how exactly is Cignetti doing this? I mean, this isn't a coaching coming into a formerly great program and turning it around. Indiana is a college football doormat. Last year was the first time they've won 10 games in a season. I'm assuming they didn't drop boatloads of NIL money like Texas Tech. And yet they're a game and a half away from becoming the first FBS team since 1899 to win 16 games in a season.

Indiana is definitely the best team in the country by far. They deserve all the the praise they get and I expect them to steam roll Miami as well.

The Sec definitely has some overrated teams for sure. So some of the praise that some of their teams get is unwarranted. If the Big 10 can win 3 National championships in a row that's certainly an impressive feat. But the Big 10 also has their share of overated teams as well. And then you got teams like Texas Tech who are also super overrated because they play in a horsefeathers conference and beat up on scrub teams all season long.

There are only like 2 and a half major conferences out there so arguing over which one is overrated and underrated is kinda silly in the grand scheme of things.

He did it with great coaching  (obviously) and recruiting a bunch of 21+ year olds with a lot of experience out of the portal. They aren't paying a ton of money to most of these players but he went out and found a ton of productive players who have a ton of experience and he recruited them through the portal and here they are producing for him. I suspect a lot of schools will be copying his formula after this season so it might be harder to replicate in the future but he's a hell of a coach so hats off to him.
