Stop horsefeathers bunting, Pete. You are really bad at it. And they suck.

I read something on Defector that pointed something out regarding bunting I hadn't thought of. Because the shift has been effectively eliminated, it's a hell of a lot harder to bunt for a hit than it was even a few years ago since there aren't big holes in defensive alignments any more.

Brutal to play 162 plus postseason games and your season ends because the pitcher airmails a throw to the catcher.

especially when he just could have thrown to 1st

For Pete, there's actually a lot of grass for him - third baseman generally play well off the line for him because he's so pull heavy. Ssimilarly velo hits to that area, it's actually a pretty high xBA in general. When you add in his sprint speed, and his propensity to strikeout to begin with, I think there's enough data to suggest when he's down that bad, bunting isn't a terrible idea.

yeah, if he gets it past the pitcher he's got a great shot

52 pitches through 2 for Peralta but Im not sure it’s a good thing necessarily for the pen to be in especially with an off day tomorrow (if the Cubs win) so no one would be down if the pen has to throw extended innings

I see we’ve gone into our post-1st inning offensive slumber once again.

I 100% anticipate that happening but we did get 2 guys on in the only inning played since so far

Hes a great contact hitter but he has a ****** eye at the plate

It's really amazing how little he strikes out with how often he swings at pitches that aren't even competitive.

Be huge if Boyd can get through this inning scoreless against the top of their order

Recency bias with Boyd. He’s actually been nails for us, but had a bad start in game 1.  And MIL not some juggernaut that showed up game 1 and 2. I’m looking for a 15-18 out start from Boyd.
