Elder has been really good in 4 of his 6 August starts (@NYM, @PHI, @CIN, NYM). He was lit up in two of his three  home starts in August (CWS, FLA).

Elder's much better than his ERA, but even by the more generous measures he's not full on good.

Interestingly his peripherals are garbage against lefties while his results are garbage against righties.  Curious if there's something there or just SSS weirdness.

His statcast page is putrid so I assume he'll pitch 6 innings of 1 run ball with 9 K.

Yeah, came out last night he'd take today off, they have a scheduled off day tomorrow and then will re-eval into Friday.

A day’s rest isn’t the worst thing IMO.  Maybe a couple days for PCA too, although the impact to our defense would be significant.

Alcantara is less of a step down than some of the options we've had in the past, which might have been the thinking behind his promotion. Give PCA a few days. I think PCA's problems and Tucker's problems are pretty apples to oranges though. Others have talked about it far more extensively/smartly, but maybe just putting PCA down in bottom of the order and taking anything beyond elite defense and baserunning as a bonus for the rest of this year.

 No Tucker or PCA today, plus the thread was renamed to the Braves from Brewers, so likely a loss today because of superstitious stuff.😅

Hopefully 3 days off helps but I'm not sure...I think we just need to take what we can get from PCA at this point and hope he works out the offensive issues.

For all the doomsday fans who think every team in the playoffs is obviously better than the cubs, Padres down 7-0 to the Orioles in SD. I think this might be an O’s sweep and the Padres will have lost 8 of their last 10. Any reason to think they are obviously better than the Cubs? 5 of those losses are to the Twins and O’s.

I think the Phillies will be the tough team to beat for the Cubs in the playoffs, with the Dodgers a close second because theyre the Dodgers. 

Brewers dont scare me as much but you never know with them, the others shouldn't be any problems for them.
