He had half of our hits and we had no hard contact. The whole lineup looked like dog horsefeathers when they actually swung the bat.

Changeups are killing the offense, especially the LHB.

Yep. You’ve articulated all of my thoughts. I’d add Seiya to the list of righties being hammered by sliders and sweepers away, more than I’ve ever seen and hasn’t really adjusted. Of course some of the batted ball luck is a product of predictable spray charts from multiple guys. They hit right into the shift way too often and can’t use the whole field to make hard contact.

PCA Seiya and Busch Hitting a combined 7 home runs since the all star break makes it less forgiving. Top of the order is killing them and I won’t even mention Tucker.

The benefit of Nico Hoerner is he can actually hit it to all parts of the field keeping the defense guessing and his lack of power comes in handy where his soft line drive hits are routine, outfield fly outs for the other 8. His power suffers of course but at least he can get a hit with RISP. This lineup is fcked without the long ball and they might as well just sit on fastballs and wait for a mistake at this point.

his job is to build a winning team and he has failed at that job for multiple years.

making the argument that hoyer sucks doesn’t require anyone to list moves that they would have done better than hoyer. it’s not hoyer’s job to be better than a message board poster at gm’ing, it’s his job to be better than other gms at gm’ing, which he objectively has failed to do.

How do we all suppose Jed’s performance review went before he was extended?

I imagine Tom Ricketts said to him, “Jed, you haven’t achieved anything you set out to do”, to which Jed replied mischievously “didn’t I?” to create the impression that he’s been quietly pulling strings to build success for the Cubs.”

And Tom reply will reply “no really, you’ve don’t sweet horsefeathers all. You’re always on Marquee talking to Jon and Jim, you’re never on the phone to other teams…” and Jed will cut Tom off mid sentence with a glint in his eye and say “is that so?”

Boom. New multi-year extension.

Color me shocked that they are finally doing something about this.

They won't tell the story to the public. These guys are prideful, uber-macho jocks. I'd bet a lot of money that they asked him if he wanted to take time off or go on the DL, and he told them, No—same thing with Dansby, who played with a damn hernia most of last year.

They should let the medical staff decide what needs to be done. Tucker was still getting on base, but now he's Jason Heywarding because his swing is out of whack.

I can not even muster up the energy to be mad. All I can is laugh.

This is where I am right now.  I'm just going to let the schadenfreude entertain me until they prove they're good again.

He says this NOW during the Brewers series?   Everyone should have been rested up and ready to go for this series.  How are they this stupid?  Counsell isn't a fool, and yet here we are...

Agree, only thing I can think of is that they were hoping to keep within striking distance before the series and then take the series to make it a race again but they horsefeathers the bed there, especially with yesterday's embarrassment.

Like I said yesterday, we'll probably start seeing more guys get extra days off now and certain SP pitches limited to get them healthy and rested for the playoffs.

Division is out of reach now, cause it unlikely the Cubs in these final 40 games will play 700 baseball while the Brewers will have to play 300 baseball to catch them.

Main focus now is the WC and holding onto that top spot.  4 team battle for 3 spots, I think the cubs will eventually get their heads out of their assess and start stringing some wins together to make the playoffs, after that who knows.

BTW people, Happ is 2-32 career vs Peralta with a homer. They were right to give Caissie a shot.

When all 4 of your OFers has been hitting in the low 200s or below for over a month, there's ZERO reasons not to play someone else over them for a couple games and hope they can provide something positive.
