Hey all! In lieu of our normal game thread, we're going to roll with this deadline thread.

As a recap of what's already happened with the Cubs (will keep this updated throughout the day):

Cubs trade Christian Franklin and Ronny Cruz for Michael Soroka (Nationals)

Cubs trade Wilfri de la Cruz for Andrew Kittredge (Orioles)

That's two relievers down, starting pitching and a bat to go. What are you thinking with the deadline coming in at 5pm CST today?

Feel free to dump league-wide trades in here, too.

The Cubs remain "dogged" in their pursuit of starting pitching, from what we know. Based on the fact they acquired two rental relievers for (good) down-the-list prospects, I expect the blockbuster to come today for a controllable starter. Remember that Jed is historically very patient with this crap, so don't be surprised if we're waiting until after the buzzer for confirmation of a deal.

If the Marlins move Alcantara (His market seems to be heating back up), does that make them less willing to also move Cabrera?

I haven't seen any rumors say it's an either/or deal.  And that came up a lot with Gallen/Kelly so I assume it'd get reported.

Someone in the other thread said they didn't want Gore. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't trade for him, unless they think the prospect cost is too high. Still, I don't care. He's better than any prospects we currently have and the Cubs have the money to pay him.

Great question. I was wondering the same thing. Also, I honestly do not think the Cubs get a deal done for a controlled starter. Look at what Bieber went for. A top 100 guy. What the hell would teams be asking for Gore, Ryan, Cabrera, Alcantara or Keller? In some cases probably 3 top 100 guys or more. Even the least desirable would cost Cassie+. I am starting to lean to best rental. And even that could cost Long or more. My hope is Kelly.

Following up here, this just got posted on the Athletic

The Marlins are a team to watch today for several reasons, including what happens with starters Sandy Alcantara (pictured) and Edward Cabrera, two of the splashiest names on the market.

The interest in both Alcantara and Cabrera is very high, league sources said.

Two other Miami pitchers to keep in mind: Ronny Henriquez and Calvin Faucher. Miami is fielding interest in both players, people briefed on the situation said.

In particular, multiple teams are looking to acquire Faucher, league sources said. Of the two pitchers, he is more likely to get traded. Faucher, 29, has 10 saves with a 3.73 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 41 innings. Henriquez, 25, has a 2.96 ERA in 51 2/3 innings with 71 strikeouts. Both pitchers are under club control for multiple seasons.

Teams are also continuing to show interest in the Marlins' outfielders Jesus Sanchez and Dane Myers, league sources said.

Sounds like the Marlins are pretty prepared to send a lot of talent out the door.  All of these guys are under control next year and a few of them aren't even in arb yet.

Jays traded Khal Stephen. FG ranked him #4 org, top-80 overall.

That's pricey. I doubt he was ever a realistic backup plan at that price.

Yep, that like giving up Wiggins for him

Seeing the price of pitching makes missing out on Suarez even harder to stomach.

Not getting Suarez doesn’t bother me in the least. They need at least a solid MOR starter. That’s way more important than Suarez. .

Hopefully Bieber being moved gets the ball rolling now on these better SP getting dealt.

Hopefully Jed got his guy in mind and working the phone now

but if that Mid rotation starter isn't available you go get the guys like Sirokoa  Charlie Morton types and the big bat.

Love yall but starting a thread and then locking it, then starting another TDL thread this morning for like an hour then locking it, then moving to another thread is annoying. I never know where to go on here to talk baseball. I’m scared to start a thread because I might get put in timeout if it’s in the wrong place lol. Just a minor complaint. Anyways back to the TDL talk

There are enough mid-rotation arms (which includes Morton) that the Cubs should find one today. A bit of a bummer that they didn't get Suarez, but the Cubs maybe just as good by getting a Willi Castro if they can make that kind of a thing happen.

How available each is, is up for debate, but arms who fit at least a midrotation mold and are still plausible include Gore, Ryan, Cabrera, Alcantara, Kelly,  Morton, Keller, and Cease. And these are just like a handful of names that just rattled off my brain.

So now that Suarez is gone who are our bat options? I love the Shaw improvements but still feel we’re lacking a bat. I am sure Jed will still bring another SP.

Willi Castro is, and has been, the obvious choice

That was me - I  responded as that thread was locked.

Prospect cost

Been hit hard lately

Prefer a RHP to mix with Shota, Boyd, and Steele (back by this time next year hopefully)
