I am not a fan of Happ’s constant cold streaks. He’s been garbage for a month now

It sure seems like he is much more hot and cold than most, but he will get hot again soon and his numbers will end up close to where they always are.

I’m sorry but for what he’s paid the Cubs should expect more consistency

If this is your standard for ‘getting exposed’, the NLCS isn’t going to have any teams in it.

Yes it will, the Phillies vs the Brewers or Dodgers.  This team isn't going to get there by pitching like this or starting Berti or Shaw at 3rd base

Do We or don’t we need a third baseman? I get confused in here.

the Phillies went an entire series in Houston without scoring a run and were swept by the pirates. This is all in the last 5 weeks. Was that not exposing them?

The dodgers faced one of the best SP in baseball right now, the Cubs faced a guy with an ERA north of 5.

It's cute that you think this team is beyond any criticism, even when they are on the verge of getting swept by a team that went 9-18 in June.  On to the World Series I guess 🤷‍♂️

That the frustrating thing about Happ is that he can look so good for a handful or so of games and make you think he's gonna be ok and then in a blink of an eye he just cant find holes for weeks.

This season though, yea he hit 9 homers in June to give himself a respectable total of 12 but he hasn't done much hitting overall since May.

Even with a loss today the Cubs are one game from the best record in the  NL with what apparently you feel is a team that is very flawed and can’t possibly win in the playoffs. They are 16 games over .500 with this apparently bad team. I think we all know they need to add a few pitchers and I think they will. But I also think you are overreacting to a few bad games.

Just can’t believe 48 hours ago we were up 4 games with the Brewers starting a series against the Dodgers and us against the Twins

He is essentially a very below average player for 2+ months of the season. Can’t happen.

Twins have some nice relievers I wouldn’t mind at the deadline, so let’s not conflict the Twins too much by turning them into buyers.

Yes and that is precisely what I said, that they have been exposed in *some* areas (pitching, situational hitting) I don't think I said anything wrong or am overreacting

Oh I have plenty of criticism. See any of the other threads. But you saying these two games are some referendum about the absolute farthest the cubs can go in the playoffs and then referencing the dodgers WHO ARE ON A SIX GAME LOSING STREAK AS WE SPEAK as the team that’s going to make it instead is just meatball garbage and should be called out as such.

You understand that if it all takes is two games to ‘expose’ a team, it would take anyone here about 3 minutes to ‘expose’ every single team in baseball for those and every other potential issue.

Sort of, the Dodgers and Phillies have flaws too, the defending World Series champions and the Phillies who lost in 6 to Houston a few years back with the same core. If they get the benefit of the doubt then no reason the cubs shouldn’t either,

This is a game thread, fool, let people say whatever they want in here without acting like the speech police.  The Dodgers are on a 6 game losing streak because they faced the Astros and the Brewers.  The Cubs would hardly fare better if they ran into those teams again, given how they've played lately

Citing things that happen to every single team in baseball, several times, and using them as your crux for why the cubs, and only the cubs specifically, won’t succeed, is the definition of ‘only my teams’.

I said they were exposed in *some areas".  There is nothing unreasonable about saying what most of us already know

So then every team is exposed. Cool, good talk.

Boy, not much fight those last 2 innings from the top of order on down.

4 games left til break, be cool if they can find a way to at least split them, then take a deep breath and start the second half.

No panic but it would be nice if during the break Hoyer can give these guys a positive shot in arm with a solid acquisition to give them a little boost.
