Nice inning by Hodge...wish he would a pitched the 8th and Palencia the 9th but I understand why it didn't go down that way. Keller has been much better than Porter all year long.

Super sad news on Bobby Jenks. Gives real perspective to a crappy baseball game being exactly what it is: insignificant.

Oh well, that sucked...

Hoyer better go get them needed arms because 6 runs should be more then enough to win games.

Get the series tomorrow with Boyd and a rested Palencia

Sucks knowing that even if Busch reaches Nico would be up and we have no legit power options off the bench

Right, would of needed Nico to get on any way possible and then hope Shaw could actually do something before they get to Happ who hasn't been all that great lately.

So yea, they were in a tough spot in the order to hope for a positive outcome being down 2 with 2 outs.

The Taillon injury blows.

It's gonna keep SL and MIL right in it until we get an arm or two toa take the ball every 5 days. I'd like to see Hoyer act now and not at the deadline but OTOH we all know how much teams will try to hold him up in that scenario.

Did the wind die down? Dansby and Kelly were not helped at all

I thought Dansby's was a little off the end of the bat and I also thought Kelly's was gone so yeah, one of the worst losses of the season really. New day tomorrow thankfully.

PS- GO MARLINS

Hopefully he is busy on the phone during the break and can get something done right afterwards.  You'd like to start the second half with something better then Imanaga Boyd then Horton Rea and ???

The bullpen was well rested, there's an off day Monday. and Boyd goes tomorrow. And Wicks with the wind blowing out....well, I'd personally probably take the over on 3 Cardinals' runs thru 7 had he started.

Would have been Turner (PH for Shaw in the 8th) but yeah almost the same thing.

the weird decision to make this a bullpen game looks even weirder/dumber now.

I generally agree with you (in principle) but the fact is this was on Keller. He allowed 5 earned runs in the 8th inning. 4 RBI's via the two homers by Burleson and Pozo...they hit it further than their combined weight. Fat boys can slug. Keller was brutal but like I said earlier, he wasn't gonna be perfect all year: nobody is. Pomeranz was touched up today too albeit not near as much. On to Sunday....

Boyd will be good tomorrow and the Cubs will win the series.  Doesn't matter who the Cardinals' starter is, the only effective one vs. the Cubs pitched today.  I see its Fedde they'll crush him.

The Cardinals - no - their starters are soft, rarely miss bats, just don't see them able to maintain more than a .500 team.  The Brewers will probably hang in until the Cubs make some moves.  I still feel, after Jed bolsters up the staff, the Cubs are going to bury the rest of the NL Central.
