Boyd will shut them down tonight and have that needed QS going 6 or 7.

I am really expecting something big out of PCA tonight, nothing crazy but a key hit or two that sparks the offense.

Cubs will be on tonight

2 out of 3 ain't bad..

Boyd shut them down

Offense was on

Nothing big from PCA though

Nice easy W, let do the same tomorrow with Imanaga return.

If I can nitpick a little, Boyd having 12 strikeouts in his last 4 starts (23 innings) is a little concerning.

I say this because, and I mean this as a compliment to him and an indictment of the team, he’s pretty clearly our game one starter at the moment.

It worries me that he doesn't have innings built up before this season.  We're going to need him if we're in the playoffs.  It was 2019 since he's thrown this many IP in a season, this pace is unsustainable.  I hope they trade for a SP soon, and they could go with a 6-man and consider giving Boyd and Horton and extra day of rest while trying to keep Imanaga/Taillon/Rea on normal rest.

I really think teams generally need to do something to prevent so many pitcher injuries.  Not sure what though.  It's just insane even from a health and safety perspective to have almost every pitcher needing major elbow surgery at some point.  Steele had his 2nd TJS.  Taillon has 2.  Its nuts.

Especially given the fact that Taillon isn’t exactly throwing 100 mph gas with 90 mph sliders and splitters with 25 inches of break. Nothing about him screams he’ll have arm problems like Wood, Prior, Strasburg etc. Is it the extra muscle mass players have these days that decrease joint mobility?

Watched the condensed game, awesome the Cubs turned the tables on the Cardinals.  Crushed the ball, flashed some leather and just flat out kicked Cardinal ass.  Pretty hopeful for today, I've no doubt Cubs will score a bunch of runs, Shota will hold the Cardinals down.

If I was a Cardinals fan I'd be worried about the SP, their starters may be softer than the Cubs and that's saying something.  The statistics may not back my statement up but, the eye test vs. the Cubs suggest their starters are soft.  I don't believe they have the resources to make vast improvements and, right now, they don't have Horton-like type.

Quinn Mathews was regarded as a much better prospect than Horton going into this year (32 v 79 per FG), but he seems to have basically developed the yips at AAA. He was drafted as a crafty, high ceiling college arm and then added a bunch of velocity and pretty much dominated A, high A, and AA last year over 22 starts. Then he got to AAA, walked 14 guys in 17 innings, and so far this season he's walked 30 in 32. If they really wanted to go for it this year he's probably their best trade chip, but don't think he's near the point where they could feel comfortable giving him crucial starts down the stretch.

I meant in their rotation, a guy with some velocity and up side.

They've also been incredibly fortunate health wise.  McGreevy has taken some spot starts to mostly keep their regular starters on a 5 day rest pattern but outside of that, those 5 guys have started every game.  A rotation injury would really hurt them.

Well, yeah, the youngest guy there is Liberatore who we already saw. Mathews as mentioned above and then I guess Tink Hence (22 yo, injured in spring training but more than handled AA last year and has made one very good start there) are theoretical options to give the rotation a boost if they wanted to dump one of the low K guys (Mikolas, Fedde, Pallente), but to your point no one with the AAA track record that Horton has, and even more to your point Horton has had more success in the majors than most of the top pitching prospects.
