As for today's game I'd love to see PCA and Nico and even Dansby make Skenes field his position. Lay some bunts down and see if the big man can get off the mound and handle his business.

Whereas I'd rather see PCA dong him so hard he Kershaws

I mean, the Cubs have struggled lately vs guys that aren't even elite.  You think Flaherty is elite?  Hell the journeyman from last night was an out away from 6 IP and 2 ER.

I'm just saying that they need to show a bit more against the type of pitchers they will see in October.  It's fair criticism to say that the only person on this team that can consistently slug vs LHP is Seiya, and maybe Tucker

I think you’re just basing too much on a down stretch which is part of the ebbs and flows of baseball. The Cubs were always unlikely to average 6 runs per game all season, but they’ll likely have another solid stretch where they do. They’re a very good offense with hitters who have track records against good pitching. You just have to ride out bad stretches and hope the offense isn’t in one of those ruts in October.

Today a great day for Horton to go 7 inning with double digits strikeouts.

Be awesome if he could have close to a Kerry Wood type game when he had the 20Ks.. 😏😏

He isn't elite but, he's far from a Colin Rea, he would definitely qualify as good effective pitcher.  I'd take him for the Cubs' rotation in a heart beat.  I would also take Seiya and Tucker running hot in October, it's way more difficult to pitch around two or more hot bats.

I'd settle for a down turn in mistakes and trusting his off speed stuff.

That's fair.  IMO, if they just had one more guy that can hit lefties, like a legit platoon 1st basemen, I'd be satisfied and I'd say they are ready to go for October.  Probably already are regardless.  But I hope that's something the FO is considering.

That's true.  I thought that would have been a great off-season signing, but Boyd has been amazing so far

I'm aware... take out that game and he's 2-0 in 4 starts vs. the Cubs with a sub 2 ERA.  1 game in May doesn't change the point I'm making, which is about their recent sluggish ABs vs really good pitchers in general, not just Skenes

Cubs have scored 3 runs in 5 innings or less 3 times in Skenes, out of 5 appearances. How about take out his one really good start against the Cubs and now tell me his era. He has had 5 starts and never went past the 6th. 25 total innings.

that's true, it cuts both ways.  My honest concern is just against these top southpaws.  I know Tucker is Tucker and PCA is playing amazing, but asking a lefty to be that lefty killer is a tough ask.  The only guy that can consistently slug against lefties is Seiya as of now.

I'm hoping they can get a better guy than Turner as a platoon for Busch at the deadline.

Solid AB but man it frustrates me when Seiya takes a strike 3 like that especially after fighting off 3 tough pitches in a row.
