Cabrera, Bieber/Morton, and a power (30% K) RP  would be phenomenal. Ill also be very happy if we can pry Eovaldi instead.

I would be fine with what you are suggesting. I would even add Soroka and Kelly to Bieber/Morton grouping. I doubt they get Eovaldi. Rangers are in the WC race.

New TDL article from Passan and Olney this morning. Very few Cubs mentions. One sentence of maybe Ryan or Cease if the Cubs “value the cost.” A slight Merril Kelly mention. Then a Shane Beiber mention as a possibility. That’s about it.

The Cubs tend to work quickly and quietly behind the scenes. Most of their TDL moves just...happen. So maybe a good sign.

Zumach did mention the FO was "convicted" in their deadline pursuits

If they are going pure rentals with the possibility of two pitchers each being in a playoff rotation I would go Cease and Bieber. Sticking with rentals maybe Castro, or if Happ is more hurt than we think, Suarez. Finish with Iglesias. That would cost a fair amount of minor league assets, even for rentals.

Did he say “convicted” or conflicted or maybe even constricted? 😅 JK. I have hope and faith Jed will get something done that will help the team.

This is probably just my Chicago sports fan doom mindset but there are so many teams vying for help this year.  It’s a seller’s market.  Cubs have a couple guys working their way back from injury.  It just feels like there won’t be a big trade.  Smaller trade or two maybe.

I think there will be several trade throughout baseball. Sellers still want to get rid of their rentals. But the problem is the sellers will get more than what most people are comfortable with because of so many buyers. Guys like Suarez & Cease are going to be pricey. MOR starters, pen arms and bench bats are going to cost more than most here will be happy with. From the Cubs POV, you may even see Brown go for a rental(Cease or Suarez) Jed is going to have to overpay if he wants to add talent. The trick is not to overpay that much and still give the best package.

Even just the mention of Cease is also a good sign that teams aren't just assigning themselves one of the two buckets (Buyers, Sellers). While there's only 10 teams with a less than 10% chance of making the playoffs, you're more likely than in past years to figure out a trade with a contending team who is trying to retool.

Dbacks are asking for 2 top 100 prospects for Suarez on his own. What makes you think the Cubs won’t have to give up Cassie+ for Suarez and Kelly? I would rather get Keller and Castro if thr price was the same. At least they have Keller after this season.

I don't think their price will be the same because they are rentals. Dbacks can ask for that but teams haven't traded a top 100 prospect for a rental in over 4 years. It's probably why a trade hasn't happened yet. This will go to the deadline.

We dont need a daily countdown to call Jed out for doing exactly what every other POBO or GM is doing. Stop being melodramatic.

How are you missing the point? I wasn't calling out Jed. I never mentioned Jed or the Cubs. It was a general point that things need to get moving MLB wide because it's boring when nothing happens until the last 12 hours.

If that's the case I retract my comment and apologize but this is the starting rotation options available to the Cubs thread and you have specifically called out Jed just recently so its pretty easy to see how someone could get confused about it.

Houser scratched from next start

I really, really hope Jed is not trading for Houser, while maybe an improvement over Rea and Brown, he's a regression ticking time bomb.  That said, I think we have to resolve ourselves that Houser will be a Cub soon.  He has Jed type acquisition written all over him, only saving grace is he should be dirt cheap.

A Suarez + Cease package would be pretty sweet, think Amaya would be enticing for them right?

Lose Amaya for 2 rentals? No thank you. And if Suarez isn’t a rental that means he took the players option. Which means he does poorly the rest of the season or gets hurt. Then you have a bad pen arm for 2 years at a high cost. Easy pass.

He also pitched for CC. So might be someone CC wants.

True but theres a surplus of catchers on the team right now. Padres want MLB talent, this is a strict win now move and you dont dip into your prospect pool. 4 years of Amaya for half seasons of Cease and Suarez is a bit steep but you gotta pay up for talent

Houser would be good as the second acquired SP they need, I noticed he also hasn't pitched much, just 68 innings in 11 starts, so he should have alot left in the tank, so he should be good for 9-10 starts til end of season.

Get him and he can start Saturday in place of Brown.

Cade Horton has only given up 1 ER in his last 5 starts. We might have something here
