The enemy (cardinal fans) are circling their tractors around Albert Pujols. The self-proclaimed "most knowledgeable baseball fans in the world" are ignoring who has the better BA, OPS, Gold glove and number of clutch hits and are promoting a stuff the ballot box initiative for Pujols. Don't let them get away with this. Send a message to the Hill billy Card fans that you are more knowledgeable about baseball than they are and will vote for the most deserving player. Let them stick to tractor pulls and square dances - where they are more qualified. In Chicago tradition, vote early and vote often for D. Lee!

Get out the vote Cubs fans. The NL MVP-so-far needs to be the starting first baseman in Detroit this summer.

he'll DH if he doesn't start at first though. either way, he'll start. but he's still a better fielder than pujols. although he still has a ways to go to catch him offensively.

Count me in, if just for the circling the wagons comment.

When do the initial numbers come out?

Posted

He'll probably start AT THIS POINT but don't forget there is about 6-7 weeks until the All-star starters are announced. A lot of good or bad could happen between then

Regardless, I'm taking a couple handfulls of ballots on Friday at Wrigley and checking off one Derrek Lee in each of them

I just voted for the first time - all I want to know is who the idiots are that are going to vote for B.Bonds. There should be some way to monitor so that people that do not play are not even on the ballots. You know he is going to get votes, and if there are alot of them, they should track them down by their e-mails and lynch-mob them...

Well I am sure those Pujols votes are coming in from fans of 29 teams, not just one....No matter, Lee will start the game unless something bad happens. It might be as the DH, but he will start. Unfortunetly I have a feeling that my favorite player Todd Helton will be left out this year.

No matter if its Pujols or Lee....can't say that either is a bad choice.

With all due respect, I voted for Albert Pujols. Not just based on how they have played so far this year, but also based on how the two of them performed after the all star break last year. Afterall, when exactly does the 2nd half production that might propel you into the playoffs have any reflect on who gets voted into the all star game? I think it's more important to look at that than at 1st half production.

Pujols after the all star break:

.361/.433/.721/1.154 51 XBH's, 63 RBI's

Lee after the all star break:

.249/.334/.491/.825 30 XBH's, 49 RBI's

There's no way Derrek doesn't get into the All Star Game. But, voting for Derrek over Pujols because of a hot month and a half is complete homerism. And that's all well and good, but let's make sure we are voting him in because you want a Cub player on the roster and not because you think he's the best 1b.

Derrek is awesome, but he rates 3rd on my list of awesome 1b's, and probably 4th if Thome is healthy. 4th is still pretty good considering that is still ahead of Carlos Delgado and some other pretty decent 1b's in the league.

I've voted for DLee 125 times. :)

I need to activate the other mailboxes on my SBC account and then I could vote for him another 125 times.

Actually, if I go to mlb.com and use my husband (the Cardinals fan)'s home email address...I can not only vote for Derrek 25 times, but take away 25 potential votes from Albert as well.

I urge all of you to do the same. Get to mlb.com using your Card fan friend's email addresses before they do. Mwahahaha!

I don't think that last year's second hand numbers are at all relative to the debate. IMO, the all-star game is about rewarding the best players that year. Predicting what they will do after the game, or going on performance prior to this year isn't fair. If I had to pick which one I wanted on my real team, I'd obviously pick Pujols, but that's not what the All-Star game is, to me at least.

We have to remember that LaRussa will be managing the NL team - and selecting the backups... so while DLee will clearly be an All Star, it's not likely that LaRussa will select too many Cubs for the roster. In other words... VOTE! NOW!

Man, the NL has a monopoly on the first basemen.

NL

Pujols, Helton, Thome, Lee, Delgado

AL

Ortiz(not really a first baseman), Sexon (Rob Deer 2.0), Teixeira, Morneau (He and Tex are going to jump Lee, Thome and Delgado soon enough. Tex may be better than Delgado now), Hafner? (DH), Sweeny?

Tony is going to pick Prior and have him go 150 pitches...

(joking)

Cub All-Stars:

Lee

Prior

Zambrano

Lee is the MVP of the league right now. Pujols will still be the starter. This is just one idiot redneck hill william's opinion.

You left Overbay off the list... he looks real solid with a lot of those doubles turning into HRs now.

If I thought pujols was on the decline, I'd have voted for Lee this season. But pujols is good and has been good and will be good in the future. Can't vote for lee over baseball's best hitter

Sorry to rain on your parade, but at this point in the season, Derrek Lee is baseball's best hitter.

Well it is safe to say he will not be looking at the Cubs bullpen for help. He will take Prior and maybe Zambrano.

As for 1st base, It does not matter who gets it because the other will be used as the DH. I just hope the NL can win this year so the other league does not get the WS advantage (which I find to be the most ignorant way to determine home field advantage).

Sorry Red Bird fans, even your home town paper, the Sporting News has Lee ahead of Pujols. Show some integrity and vote Lee as starting 1B in the all-star game.

From the Sporting News:

The first turn of the 2005 season is almost behind us.

At this writing, almost all teams are at or beyond the 40-game mark, which means, roughly speaking, we're a quarter of the way through the season. As such, it's perhaps time to take stock of the season in our midst and hand out some first-turn hardware. So here then are your 2005 "25 percent Awards" ...

NL MVP: Derrek Lee, Cubs

To preempt a few objections to this pick, consider that the MVP voting instructions distributed by MLB each year expressly state that players on non-contending teams should be granted consideration. The risible notion that MVPs must come from upper-tier teams is entirely an imported notion by the voters. If you overlook the best player because his teammates stink, you're doing the award a disservice. So Lee it is.

And here's why: Best SLG and fifth-best OBP in the NL, 8-for-9 in steals and excellent defense at first. He's also on pace for 51 homers and 55 doubles on the season.

Runner-Up: Chipper Jones, Braves

Also be sure to write in Jason Dubois in the outfield.

I've voted nearly 500 times, so I could use your help.

Why Dubois? I hope your joking. I like the guy, but he's hardly deserving of being an All-Star.

You really think after the Z/Edmonds incident, that TLR will pick Zambrano? I dont.

As of today, not only has D. Lee moved significantly ahead of Pujols in all offensive categories, he is leading the whole NL in BA, RBIs and HRs and is a gold glove fielder.

Get off your butts Cubs fans and vote for D. Lee to star at 1B in the all-star game.
