Dodgers are just taking the piss out of everyone now. Sasaki will be their cheapest signing, and probably 2nd or 3rd best pitcher. 🤣

I mean my only reaction is just jealousy. It feels like we don’t even play in the same league as them.

That’s an AAV of $36.4M. I don’t think the Cubs have ever paid a player more than $28.5M in a season. And Dodgers fans are probably saying “cool now what other top FAs can we sign this winter?”

So yeah I don’t particularly love the idea of paying Blake Snell 5/$182 so not necessarily jealous of that. But insanely jealous of how easily the Dodgers throw money around while the Cubs had their entire offseason ruined (in Jed’s mind) because Bellinger picked up his $27.5m option.

Yeah I didn’t even think about Sasaki. They are probably looking at it thinking “we can get Snell and Sasaki for an average of $18.3M for the next 5 years”

The moral to this story is the Ricketts family sucks, and Jed is also terrible at his job.

Yeah, it really must be nice to have ownership who gives even the slightest of fucks about winning. Ricketts liked his new toy for a few years, but now it's just a means to keep lining those pockets.

Dodgers are just making it easier for cheap owners to continue being cheap. “What‘s the point in spending money to only be second best to the Dodgers… that’s our excuse and we are sticking to it.”

Thankfully, Cleveland were horsefeathers enough to give up a 3-1 World Series lead. Just have to be content with that.

That seems like an overpay, but Dodgers keep getting better damn.

The Dodgers were probably like "what do we need to do to wrap this up before the winter meetings?  you need an extra $8 million per year? Fine, done"

The sad part, dodgers will probably still be very active throughout WM and beyond.

Also, goes to show us all, boras may suffer from a hiccup now and then. But, like a gladiator, he truly is more powerful than Caesar

Having snagged Snell, I'm now expecting announcements from dodgers about signing Soto during the WM followed by Sasaki in January. Thusly creating a clean sweep of acquiring the proven successful veteran pitcher, the best bat next to ohtani not yet in the hall of fame and the best kid thrower since DAVID.

Worry not people,  I'm sure Jed will counter with Kluber who will throw 40 mediocre innings before his arm falls off again

Plus finding player X who over performs in 2025 translating to an 85 or so win team, good times.

They are going to revolutionize baseball by having a 10-man rotation

Screw the closer.  Just pitch every game like it's a 5-inning start followed by a 4-inning start. Have a couple extra guys for games when there's extra innings.

So we find out its not as much an overpay, just includes deferrals.  They don't call them the Dodgers for nothing!

The deal, which is pending a physical, comes with a $182MM guarantee but reportedly includes around $60MM in deferrals that’ll reduce the net present value to the $160-165MM range. Snell, a client of the Boras Corporation, receives a $52MM signing bonus and limited no-trade protection, while the deal includes a $5MM assignment bonus in the event of a trade. The contract does not contain any opt-out provisions and covers Snell’s age 32-36 seasons.

52m signing bonus?  What does that accomplish accounting-wise?

How hard is it to just have the rule be “the contract is for X years and $XXX total therefore the luxury tax hit is $XXX/X”? Defer however you want to but it’s not going to change the luxury tax hit. If that means Shohei’s deal is only $450M or whatever actual dollar figure it was, then fine. This deferral stuff is horsefeathers.

At this stage, the rest of Baseball is like LeBron James in that meme where JR Smith has been photoshopped out of it and replaced by the Golden State Warriors big 5. In this case, the GSW players have been replaced by the Dodgers entire roster and LeBron James represents the rest of baseball.
