I think Bears fans are going to be livid all week, which i think is undue given the result relative to expectations. The Texans are the best team on our schedule for at least the first half of the season, arguably for all of it.

We're going to go through all the normal screaming to fire everyone and how everything is awful, and in a month or two we will be at or over .500.

The defense was a lot better than I expected.  They held a very good offense to one touchdown and under 20 points.

The offense? Well, i thought the offensive line was overcriticized week 1 but this week they'll deserve it.

And there was still too much sloppiness in basic play execution.

But all of that could have been overcome with good QB play, which we didn't get.

Williams looked better than week 1, which is something.  But he still looked like crap.  The Bears win that game if he makes a few big boy throws, and he had plenty of chances to do that and just kept failing.

Absolutely not

Eh, I think he is doing exactly what he is instructed to do by tightly managing the conversation and putting a positive spin on everything.  It doesn't make for an incredibly insightful postgame show, but I think that is by design.

Buzz off, there were flashes early on when I said that. When he had time to throw in rhythm early in the game he was moving the ball and made good throws and decisions. That obviously didn’t continue and the second half was pretty bad.  Of course this didn’t help either

Every offense is gonna have a few successful plays and move the chains here and there. They have 0 explosive plays. They've scored 23 points.

They've been horrific.

God I hate harping on this but why do you do a massive overhaul of the roster, bring in #1 franchise QB paired with a top tier WR…

…and then stick with a two-time failure HC?  What is it that Poles sees in this Flus?  He was a fine coordinator but not HC material.

After 9 beers... and just short of a metric crap-ton of air-fried snacks, here goes.

This team is actually not that bad.

Ok... so... the offensive line is bad. Make that very bad.

The rest of the offense is bad, too. Is there a new coordinator? Asking for a friend.

But the defense is good.  Very good. Bordering on great if they didn't have to be on the field so much.

Can the offense improve? Yes... as long as the O-line will allow.  The defense will hold their own.

If there was ever a case study on how important it is to have a solid offensive line... it might be this team.

Eberflus has no issue with the challenges and says the have a "great system in place."

I know the first was right in front of him, but maybe he is not trying to hang out to dry the guy in his earpiece telling him to challenge

I guess that system includes ignoring what you just saw and going with someone in an earpiece.

What's funny is he looked ok in the pocket tonight, but every time he does his cool scramble thing, he biffs the throw

That’s bizarre to me, but true.

At this rate I'm just expecting Poles to trade another 2nd rounder mid year to try and fix the OL.  Every year so far he's plugged his biggest position group failure this way.

Except teams really never are in a position to part with good OL.

I think Poles thinks continuity and scheme familiarity is more important at OL than WR or edge

And he might be right about that, Jenkins and Wright have been brutal so far but they’re capable of a lot more than they have shown

Dude, first of all i believe I said that sometime in the 2nd quarter. Second of all I’ve been right there with you criticizing the production and overall performance of the offense. That doesn’t mean you can’t see glimpses of what the offense is supposed to look like and flashes of the talent looking talented. There is a lot to clean up and things feel a lot worse after that 2nd half but when Caleb was 8-9 or whatever he was and was in a groove hitting receivers on time you could get a glimpse of what they’re trying to do.

I saw the Bears had 15 first downs today and thought “ok that’s decent at least” but then I realized that 1/3 of those first downs (5) were via penalty 😂

I counted 22 plays tonight that were a 1 yard gain or loss of yards. That’s runs, sacks and pass completions. Doesn’t include penalties or incompletions.

That seems like a lot of wasted plays that hurt drives. Not sure why there are so many runs that go nowhere or short passes that get blown up right at the line of scrimmage but in a close game where the offense isn’t scoring a ton, that’s killer. Waldron has his work cut out for him.

Going back to the offensive coaching discussion, Malik Willis’ Packers offense today gained more yards today than the Bears have in their first 2 games combined.

Obviously it was a run heavy offense without needing a ton from Willis, they have a better line, the offensive system has been in place for years, they actually only scored 16 points, etc but still just wild to me that he can just insert Willis and put together an above average offensive production.

They're on track to "Tim Couch" Caleb Williams' career. Needed to upgrade at least 40% of the offensive line (60% IMO because Jones shouldn't be starting). and failed miserably to improve the line.

Everyone keeps heaping praise on the Packers forgetting Love didn't instantly look great last season, believe it was around mid-season when things started flowing for him and the Packers.  Bears' defense is already good enough, it's going to take some time for the offense to come around - if it does.  And of course, it's going to take time, did we really believe they were going to come out firing on all cylinders?

As someone that didn’t want Caleb I’m stunned at how quickly everyone seems to be ready to give up on him. It’s horsefeathers game 2 and he has a Swiss cheese OL in front of him. What were you expecting?

I'm gonna need to see some film breakdowns before I decide how much blame i assign to each part of the offense.

Yes, the blitz was getting home every single play, but that could have a lot of causes.

Could be the offensive line betting beat physically. Could be the offensive line scheme not picking them up correctly. Could be non-OL blockers failing. Could be the receivers not running correct hots. Could be the OC not calling plays that include hots. Could be the qb not identifying the hot and getting rid of the ball.

Dexter played well again, another sack, he's starting to be a presence and problem for opposing offenses.  I noticed hes quite often drawing a double team, maybe, Sweat will start to take advantage.

i don't see anybody giving up on him except for the people who are rooting against him

The OL looked, fat, sloppy, and slow. Caleb has the tools, he just needs protection and seasoning.
