Don't try to rewrite history

I mean, that actually happened. He should have had more depth, but he didn't, and Steele and Taillon getting hurt Opening Day/in March really exposed the underbelly.

FWIW Statcast has both in the zone, as well as one from an earlier at bat called a ball

If that's true, this zone graphic completely sucks.

It's been that way. That's why it's better if TV Networks get rid of the strike zone all together, because it's not accurate. I see time from time where there may be a mound visit, and then you see the strike zone box at home plate with no batter/catcher.

I'm shocked

Admittedly I was not watching the at bat in question, but it doesn't even appear to be super borderline

I always try to check myself when it comes to high/low pitches because the broadcast zone can dial in the plate pretty well, but the up/down adjustment seems more fraught in terms of potential measurement error.

I didn't see this one but to hear that the one from earlier was also a strike is really surprising. I guess I should keep BS open all game too.

It’s going to be a dark day in Cubs broadcasting when the day comes that JD is no longer employed with the Cubs. Boog and Girardi every. single. day.

Merryweather really is not looking great since he has come back. They should have gotten him a proper rehab assignment.

Yeah velo is more 95 than 98 too.  I think there's quite a bit of rust and it's going to be a couple weeks before he's back to being a circle of trust guy.

I'm hoping Marquee will soon decide to redo the booth and just go with two people the whole season.

10-9 since the break isn't going to get it done. 6-2 in our last 8 will. Take care of business against the suddenly scorching hot Sox this weekend, hopefully Cleveland continues this little tailspin (4 game losing streak) in their 4 game in 3 days series against these Twins and it carries into our series, and then you've got Toronto (9 games under), Detroit (6 games under), Miami (30 games under), Pittsburgh (.500 but come on, it's Pittsburgh), Washington (10 games under), and then Pittsburgh again.

Totally agree.

The last time I had watched baseball full time before this year was when it was JD and Len every day around 2020. But now as I’ve come back to the sport and the broadcaster has changed to Marquee, it will be JD and Boog for 2 straight weeks and then one of them will have 5-6 days off and one or the other is paired up with Cohen, Girardi, Mowins  etc. It’s a bit jarring.

Michael Busch is awesome and we need more players as awesome as he is

I am so confused. I swear I read the other day that Busch was nothing special. So is he awesome or nothing special?

Looks like we're getting the soft part of the Guardians' rotation next week too. Though we do draw Crochet against the Sox so a sweep isn't a gimme this weekend.  It's also way too far out to feel confident but I think we're slated to miss Skubal against the Tigers?

But yeah until the Yankees series a month from now every series is either definitely easy or only hard if the pitching matchups fall the wrong way.  I think the damage is done on the playoffs but crawling back over .500 and staying there feels very doable.

On pace for 84 wins if they continue on the .600 winning % pace they’ve been playing at. Don’t think that will be good enough to overtake one of Atlanta, San Diego, or Arizona, but it could make things interesting at least.

Though if Milwaukee plays at a .400 pace the rest of the season, they will end with 83 wins. Maybe they pull a September 2023 Cubs.

We won so silly to be too negative but watching the highlights since I was at work and frustrating that both Twins runs potentially came on gaffes from the defense. In the first PCA airmailed both cutoff men when it looked like the Cubs had a play at the plate if he hits one of them. On the other Bethancourt tries to back pick the runner at 3rd (is it called a back pick when the throw goes to 3rd?) and the throw is errant, allowing the runner on 1st to advance to 2nd. The AB ends with a likely double play ball to end the inning but instead is just a single out with a run scoring

Correct, but Detroit cannot have a rain out from now til then.

True. They will need a lot of luck to make the playoffs with 85 wins. And getting 85 will be difficult too. I would guess Atlanta makes the playoffs. Have to hope for a slump by either the Dbacks or Padres. As for the other teams I don’t expect them to make lay any better than 500 ball.
