Bullpen has mostly stabalized.  Starters continue to give good starts much more often than not.  All comes down to the offense figuring horsefeathers out if the Cubs want another miracle comeback to play competitive baseball into September.

Seeing PCA start to get it together is a good sign, as is replacing Morel with Parades, and starting to get some actual production from the catchers spot.

This is Neris 40th appearance, they have 48 more games. He needs inly 20 more appearances to flip his contract option to a player one.

They have 55 games left. His current appearance pace is 60.5 appearances per 162, so they are right on the line.

yeah, one trip to the IL, or a week with only an appearance or two and he's not going to hit it

Not the biggest Paredes fan, but if that's the full deal then I feel like we just robbed the Rays. They must really have a ton of faith in Morel, like the As did with the player they got in return for Murphy.

Paredes at worst gives us a solid bat and 3B for multiple years at a cheap price.  At best, he's an All-Star slugger and 3B.

PCA still has a lot of trade value.  Trade PCA + for Robert and you solve all of the offensive woes.

meh

Robert is pretty overrated. He's really overrated if his 36.6 k% is his new normal.

Yeah, if I'm throwing major prospects at a guy, it's not one with all the question marks that come with Roberts.

OTOH You’re just saying that because he has a contract rather than he’s not excellent at baseball and fails to do what the Cubs don’t (hit for power and play a good CF)

  • He's averaging fewer games per year recently than Eloy. He won't contribute if he's not on the field
  • He was phenomenal back in 2021 (for less than 1/2 of a season). He was really good last year.
  • He was meh in 2022 and he's been very meh this year
  • His expected stats are even worse this year than his tepid performance
  • His k% has gone from 19.2% -> 28.9% -> 36.8% over the past three years
  • He's been barely above average in CF this year
  • These are things that may all point to injuries catching up with him

He's going to be overvalued based on his 2021 and 2023. But he's not showing he's still capable of producing like that in 2024.

I'll leave alone you trying to figure out why I'm saying what I'm saying.

I don't think he's overrated, but offering PCA for Chisholm would have been a good deal too.

What about what all you just laid out and the 2020s MLB suggests this is possible? The Cubs just got a 25 YO AS for a 25 YO with 3 career WAR spread over a bunch of seasons, a couple SIRP prospects, and the fanbase and NYTs are wondering if they got enough

Barely abv average in CF…What is that? Get a grip

I don't have receipts, but I've heard the Sox are asking for a fortune for him. We have people on here suggesting that getting a guy with a below average wRC+ (after today's game) would "fix all our offensive problems".

He's overrated.

He's at 0.2 defensive value in 52 games. That's pretty close to definition of "barely above average".

They’re always asking a fortune. A few hours ago the Rays were asking a fortune. Its never not a fortune by rumor and insanely overblown in reality

Lucky fot me you repeating overrated isn’t going to make it  true. Just slap a Kevin Alcantata or Matt Shaw or Rojas mask on him and maybe the potential becomes more obvious

Also I’m not sure you get me…,What is the non-imaginary issue with being “ barely abv avg?” Its not a thing, as meaningless and cheap a criticism as the word overrated

I'm sorry you don't like how language works.

Overrated is pretty nebulous, but "barely above average" is both meaningful and specific.

Dodgers have inquired about Hoerner

If they feel Triantos and or Shaw can make the jump next season, they may  move Hoerner.

I like Nico as a player, but I understand that he is also somewhat flawed as a hitter and is playing at a position where the Cubs have a lot of near-MLB prospect depth.  From that standpoint, I can certainly understand the Cubs being open to dealing him.

I hate it from a parent perspective though, with my 7 year old really starting to get into baseball and Nico being his favorite player.  I can still vividly remember being at the Museum of Science and Industry with my older son the day that the Cubs traded Bryant, Rizzo, and Baez and having to talk him through a partial meltdown.

That's life, and that's baseball, but it does change my perspective a bit on what I want to happen versus what I think "should" happen from a pure baseball standpoint.

Jed should get a haul for nico from dodgers. They are hurting for infielders. But I like nico and would like to start out 25 with him on the field.

Please jed no lottery tix.

I like Nico a lot too, especially after i heard Gordo mention on Kaplans podcast a few weeks ago that players from the last core used to tease and belittle guys like Hoerner who put in a lot of work at the gym and after the game. he's a top notch professional with his work ethic and fire. But i like Shaws power potential at 2B much more. I would move him if the deal is right.

The only reason I consider moving Nico is because the Cubs need bats bad and don't have a lot of positions to add one if Bellinger is coming back. If you can add a more offensive oriented 2B then I'm game.

I'm going to be a fool this coming offseason and hold out hope jed blows his mind and gets soto. I'm already trying to figure between soto and seya which one dh and who plays rf?

Seiya would easily be the DH, Soto has graded a ton better than Seiya defensively this year. Which is funny because Soto was bashed relentlessly for poor defense and Suzuki was a gold glover in Japan
