Maybe we can at least trick someone into giving us something decent for Smyly and Ross?

Ross ?

Of pitchers, id see what we can get for...

Hendricks, Taillon,  Smyly, Leiter, and Neris

Won't he much but it'll open up roster spots for younger guys to come up and showcase themselves for 2025

In retrospect, we all really should've seen the writing on the wall when they drew 6 bases loaded walks in one damn inning and still lost the game.

Only 8 more games until the trade deadline, seems likely they will be selling what little they have that other teams would be interested in

They were always going to sell . They are over the luxury tax . They were not going to go over 2 years in a row and o am sure they prefer to go over next season if needed .

If they can’t move Bellinger due to the fracture is going to be interesting to see if they move Taillon . Read something about the Red Sox having interest in him today .

Hopefully they can get someone to take on Neris based on track record

The Cubs are in no man’s land. They don’t have one player, Nico who could bring back a future useful player.

They aren’t going to buy and they have nothing to sell that will bring anyone of value back.

Miguel Amaya is hitting .500 since his little reset and has climbed back to replacement level.

You can't let him be the guy going into next year regardless of what he does the next two months, but I still think he's a high end backup/2nd division starter.

The reason for their offensive resurgence in the first place was riding Happs hot bat. A career 3.5-4 WAR player will regress to the mean and who else on this roster can reliably pick up the slack for a full season?

They’re bloated payroll is towards “good” players, not underperforming stars Which makes this roster construction even more absurd.

I mean Steele would bring back a pretty great haul. He’s 29, under control for cheap for multiple years. But that’s a whole different conversation.

Much like darvish deal. We would only have to wait 5 years for the fruit to ripen

I think Darvish was still owed 3/66 when we traded him. Justin Steele still has 4 years of control at 29 just going through arbitration if I looked at that correctly. You could pretty much pick which top prospect from any contender you wanted for him. I’m not saying the Cubs should do it at all, just that you could get some great prospects back for him. I prefer to win now though with Steele. It depends on how the Cubs project Steele moving forward.

Cubs have problems vs NL wild card contenders teams <=> 5 games within 500. 20-34 vs Pitt Cincy Stl SF SD AZ NYM ATL across the board.

Subtract the teams they need to beat they’re a solid 27-19.

If only the schedule makers would let us play only really bad teams all season, we might be mediocre.

The reason might be that the Cubs are the team the others need to beat.

Yes. The Cubs crappy team is the punchline here. Hopefully the Guardians are on losing streak when we play them too so we can finish 9-0 vs first place teams in the AL and finish with 70 wins.

I know yu was being paid big bucks but he was locked in for 3. Very different $ but locked in none the less. I just hate giving up prime strong members of a mlb rotation for something maybe 5 years down the road in someone else's generational time zone. Could darvish been the difference maker last year when we fell short one or two victories from our own orgasmic finish similar to the dbacks?
