horsefeathers that was way too close for comfort. Can't believe we didn't blow it.

Maybe Miller did us all a favor by giving up a granny instead of a bases-clearing double?

That inning felt like it was never going to end.

Starter good. Bullpen bad. Hitters good.

Every day we can expect option 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

You can’t say this team doesn’t change it up every day.

Positives - Hendricks was really good. Swanson had a day.

Negative - our bullpen still = keystone cops.

When you’re a good team you expect to find a way out of those situations. When you’re the 2024 Cubs you sadly expect the game to be blown

I think around the all star break.

Yikes. A whole month left before we get 1 (potentially) reliable bullpen arm.

Happy as horsefeathers they have a day off tomorrow. A stress free day will be nice.

It’s nice to see Busch turn it around again. He was abysmal after his April consecutive homer streak.

When is Almonte due back?

I would expect Almonte, Merryweather,  Brown,  Wicks, and Alzolay could be back at some point after the break.

This way Hoyer can say these guys returning is like adding to the roster when he doesn't make any real moves.

Busch OPS by month:

  • April: .833
  • may: .712
  • june: .995

League wide OPS amongst first basemen this year: .719

youd have to try really, really hard to slice up the sample sizes to get to a conclusion of ‘abysmal’

I didn’t try that hard tbh.

3/28 - 4/16 1.073 OPS over 66 PAs, 27% strike out rate.

4/17 - 5/26 .570 OPS over 116 PAs, 40% strike out rate.

5/28 - 6/19 1.008 OPS over 56 PAs, 27% strike out rate

Yeah,  Busch went through a Swanson-esque slump there.  I find it almost more encouraging for his development that he went through that and seems to have adjusted.

Carl Jr released

That sucks.  His numbers looked solid in AAA but I'm assuming the underlying stuff wasn't as good as it seemed given not calling him up despite the Cubs bullpen issues.  Realize he wasn't on the 40 but I'm sure they could have found a way to get him on it if they thought he could help.
