Could just not let him get to 60 or DFA him if you don’t want him around in 25 for 9m

Omg, I never considered just releasing him before 60. But would players association file a grievance

I have to imagine intentionally limiting his usage to avoid hitting the option could lead to a grievance as well, so I suspect we are stuck with him for another year.

I wouldn't sweat it. The Cubs will keep him under 60 if they desire. He was on a 60.5 appearance pace the last time he pitched. Skip him a few times for rest, or even an IL stint will have us comfortably in the clear.

It's a nice stadium and it's fan friendly in terms of a large parking lot/tailgating. They're going to lose that aspect, which is big to KC folks. The area around is a shithole though and there's nothing to do outside of the stadiums. But the lease is up in 2030 and ownership has already announced they won't be renewing. It'll be downtown (The mockups have been nice) or they'll move to the Kansas side near the Legends area.

The only time I've been to Kauffman (I think 2012?) I thought it would be easy to take public transit back downtown.  Nope that was not the case.  I remember having to walk 20 minutes through a busy parking lot and crossing 1-2 busy streets before I could hop on a bus that took me towards downtown, very frustrating.  But the stadium was still top notch and a blast to go to.

Yep, our public transportation is subpar. Everyone drives everywhere and tailgates for the games. One of the main concerns for a downtown ballpark is the streetcar will need to be expanded.

Idk Salas and de Vries is a heck of a duo up top, and 20 YO Lizarraga’s quietly one of the better and more underrated SP prospects out there. It’s very very hard to actually deplete a farm system these days with so many cheap avenues to talent

Well we officially won more playoff series with Quintana than the White Sox did with Eloy and Cease (1 to 0)

What are the O's doing? Imagine being an O's fan with the team they have and the farm, knowing the club needs a TORP to go all in this year and this is the deadline they come up with? Eflin and Rogers plus eating Eloy's salary when you have a thousand bats already.

Honestly the trade deadline was not a big deal for the Cubs. Jed got what he wanted. A pen arm for next year and a young 3rd baseman for 3 more years. I would have liked to see Bellinger traded but other than that I couldn’t care less that no one else was dealt.

Maybe they place some of the crappy vet arms left in the pen on waivers. Maybe a contender picks them up after an injury

Are you suggesting we just let them go to save some money?  Because post-deadline waiver trades aren't a thing anymore

Very surprised Smyly especially is still here.  I wonder if they valued the ability to cover some innings more than the nominal return.
