It's being talked about in 4 different threads now.  My thread (The Juice is Squeezed), the celebrity death thread, for some reason the NFL draft thread, and now this one lol.

I gave it until the OLine was healthy this past year and that's when I knew he just wasn't a starting NFL QB. With the trade, I still had concerns I was wrong, and DJ Moore and other teammates sticking up for Fields made me nervous that I was wrong. But, with each passing article or story, I'm sure glad they moved on. Sucks they only got a 6th rounder for him, but given the brilliance of the first round trade that netted so much talent, I can live with it.

I read on Threads the JJ McCarthy is going to hold out if he doesn't get his full bonus in one payment. I wonder if this is the same issue the Bears are having with Caleb.

1 good half season and he's already holding out for a massive contract.

Slight edit to your post

Love threw for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season.

In his first 9 games he threw for 2009 yards, 14 TD, 10 INT, 6.7 Y/A, 80.5 rating with a 58.7% comp%

In his last 8 games he threw for 2150 yards, 18 TD, 1 INT, 7.7 Y/A, 112.7 rating with a 70.3% comp %

The first half of the season he was worse than Mitchell Trubisky in Chicago, the second half of the season he was 2007 Tom Brady.

You can always parse results to tell yourself a story that reconfirms whatever biases you have, so in general, people shouldn't do that.  However, when it is a player's first season starting with a bunch of rookie and second-year receivers (somehow, exclusively), it's maybe allowed to weight the second half slightly higher than the first.  And then there was the playoffs...

I'm not saying Love is Tom Brady, but the Packers would be crazy not to shove a large pile of money in his direction.

All I was doing was pointing out that there was a clear difference in play between the first half and the second half of his season, not whether he deserves a new contract.  I remember Packers fans monitoring draft boards near midseason because they were looking to replace Love.  But clearly in the 2nd half of the season he proved he is the QB of the future (and present) in GB so Love has some firm ground to stand on when asking for a new deal.

Slap whatever word on it you want, but Jordan Love is not "holding out".

The Packers and his agent have been working on an extension for a while now. He participated in all of the offseason workouts and he's currently in training camp. He's participating in all of the non-contact parts of camp (meetings, team activities, etc.) just not actual practice.  Makes total sense. If he gets injured/significantly injured before a contract is finalized, he stands to lose a fair amount of money.

Would not be surprised if the extension is announced this week.

One good/great year and Jordan Love thinks he should be the highest player in the league? If GB was smart that make Love prove the final 8 games is the real Jordan Love and not the first 9 games before they make him the highest player in the game.

It's crazy to want more than 8 games of high level performance before dropping a quarter of a billion dollars on a guy and significantly hamstringing your payroll flexibility for the duration of the contract?

What other sport or position does this happen in? In baseball no one is a bench player for a few years, has a mediocre first half then an all-star second half and then gets a 300M contract based on that one half of performance.

There is also no other position in football or any other sport that has the importance of a football team's QB. The rest of a team can be mediocre and you will still have a good shot st the playoffs with a good QB.
