Gould is retiring. I admit I was for the move at the time to cut him because he had a rough 2014 and 2015 and I just didn't think our team was any good. But damn I loved me some Robbie Gould. His postseason stats are jaw-dropping. Too bad he never got a ring.

Does anyone think he eventually makes the Hall?

If kickers make the Hall then I think so yeah.  Even in this era of hyper accurate kickers his numbers stand out.  He made so many clutch kicks (except the one where horsefeathers Trestman had him kick on 2nd down in OT against the Vikings which cost us a playoff spot but I digress) and never missed a single kick in the postseason (20-for-20)

Just googling it though, only 2 pure placekickers have ever made the HOF so I guess it would be tough.

thats surprising considering they tend to be the top scorers on any team

So there are rumors that Ohio State is offering MHJ NIL that is at the level of what a high 1st round pick would make in order to return to Ohio State.  How would this change your opinion on the direction the Bears should go at the top of the draft if he ends up staying?

if they they keep JF,  and MHJ isnt coming out I would assume a trade down and maybe take Bowers instead

I think they will be taking a qb anyway so it doesn’t matter. But if they were going to take him at the top, then I think the odds increase that they trade out.

The big money is in the 2nd contract so a player is best off starting his rookie clock sooner. Harrison probably isnt hurting for money, but guys want to be the top of the NFL.

I don't see any chance the Bears are drafting Harrison Jr anyway. Their own pick will be lower than 3, so I don't think that will be in range to get him. The Carolina pick will likely be 1 or 2, and they'll either take a QB or trade down further than 3 and won't be in range to get him.

Agreed, not sure it changes much for the Bears, if true other than pushing up every non QB up the board one slot.  In particular it could impact the Bears if they are looking WR at pick 2 or in trade down.

However I'm highly skeptical.  Scrounge up low end Rd1 NIL money?  Maybe.  Top 5 pick money?  Really defies believability.  And like 12+ players I think are hitting the portal for OSU. They probably need to spread that around a bit.

I'm sure some college stars will opt to take NIL money at some point, but I don't think it will ever, ever make sense for them to do it. The possibility that you experience some horrific injury, or just more practically, you have a down year and it affects your draft stock and, as said above, you delay the clock on your 2nd contract means it doesn't make any goddamn sense to do it if you're looking at being a 1st round pick.

I mean guys have returned in the day before NIL (Bradford, Luck).  It won't be the sole reason, but could help tilt scales.

I think the only way the Bears go wrong with any of their options here is if they draft the wrong QB.

Drafting QB, MHJ or trading down are probably the 3 most likely scenarios with this draft and any should be solid choices.

My TV briefly cut out right before the TD,  was that a Fields fumble or was he down by contact before the fumble?
