One big throw was fun to watch but it just so happened he got that extra chance.  9/10 times 2 fumbles late = loss in a close game.

20 whatever screens they called is coaching scared.  I don't care if Fields would miss half the reads on slants or whatever, you can't try and beat a team one way only.

What an ugly game. Want Warren to have the balls to make changes now, weak ass win notwithstanding.

Is there a reason we didn’t run a play before the 2 minute warning with 0 timeouts and 30+ yards to go for FG range despite being set at the line?

Time was not an issue there. You had plenty of time to go a short distance. There was no need to run a play unless you had a VERY good matchup. I was wondering why they even lined up. It’s basic clock management.

Seriously horsefeathers high school playbook. Same run every play, same pass play a dozen times. Just garbage offense.

Someone besides UMFan talk me out of wanting Harbaugh.

It's like going on a second date with an attractive woman that's Bat horsefeathers crazy.

You know you shouldn't answer the phone but you do anyways.

Me too. But I still haven't seen enough from Fields. Ideally, I want them to draft Harrison and McKinstrey, while trading J. Johnson and using that cap space on offense while getting a true number 1 CB.

Hes a FA, how are they going to trade him?

Could franchise tag and trade.

Yep. This.

I know I'm going to sound like a massive Fields apologist and I honestly don't care.

That offensive game plan was dogshit. Does Getsy not understand that other teams can scout them and coach their defense to blow up the WR screen? All game, Minnesota had their edge set wide to jump the swing pass, then contain Fields. They were doing the Vikings a favor repeatedly running those. Their DBs were aggressively defending it, and this isn't the first game we've seen that.

Furthermore, when the defense sets their line wide, why are you not running off tackle? You have two offensive tackles that excel at the run, why are you not using your strength to play against their defensive game plan?

Getsy confuses the hell out of me. He has had games with great plans like the Broncos and Commanders games. Then he pulls a game like this.

Don't know if I care enough to talk anyone in or out of Harbaugh, but I do think he's a guy you bring in to be de facto GM. Whether that's firing or demoting Poles, I don't think his likely shelf life is worth the upside if you want a GM at top.  Rather just swing for fence on young up and coming OC.

But if you want more a Reid/Shannahan working to HC/GM, go for it.

I watched a bit of the high school playoffs last weekend and you aren't kidding.  There are teams that literally don't throw the ball once the entire game.  Every single play is a hand off or QB run... and it works.

I don't think you're an apologist.  Terrible game plan that makes a fair evaluation of Fields passing game pretty tough tonight.

That said the realist in me was already pretty far past the point of salvaging Fields in Chicago.  If he's anything other than a Big B Bust it's because 80% of his development restarts.  It's not all his fault, but it's the reality.  And Chicago with a likely top 2 pick is incentivized to put that development effort there with a consensus strong set of prospects to choose from.

Hope Fields comes back refocused off bye, maybe with a new OC, and raises that trade value as high as he can.

Weird game. Fields wasn't amazing, maybe a C- to C game - and lots of his faults showed, he wasn't great at reacting to the blitz, held the ball too long, and fumbled too much. BUT, he came up big at the end, and was able to gut out a win that should have been a blow out. Very little downfield passing, and hard to tell if that was by design or because Fields simply couldn't read the field great. Too many wide receiver screens. The run game was barely there. I'd probably sit Herbert for however long it takes for him to get healthy - Johnson looked way way better.

Defense was stellar. No complaints there. Pass rush is much improved and the DBs are finally coming down with the ball. JJ needs to get that INT that would be a pick six but thats really just nitpicking.

As a previous poster predicted - Fields has played between OK to Good but nowhere close enough to make a decision easy for the front office - not bad enough to cut bait and not good enough to feel secure at the position. How fun!

Poles had to tell Eberflus to play Sweat more in crunch time last week. He’s also going to have to tell Getsy to let open the playbook up so he can evaluate Fields as best he can.

Fields did not play well but I'm utterly baffled that Luke Getsy's plan to beat the blitz was....189 wide receiver screens

It is possible (likely?) that Getsy saw that Fields was not getting the hot reads right on the Vikings blitzes and just gave up - which would be pretty damning for Fields. Either way - Fields was playing exceedingly poorly against the blitz, he held onto the ball too long and he didn't even really gash them on scrambles when he broke free.

The Vikings then dropped 8 and rushed 3 on the Bears final drive for no reason.

An insane amount of bad coaching in this game.

I know you asked me not to chime in but I haven’t even allowed myself to think about that scenario because I’m almost certain the McCaskey’s wouldn’t make that hire. Too much of a wild card that has no problem butting head with his superiors and likely wants more control than they are willing to give him.

they claim to be desperate to win but they continue to use the same processes to hire the same lame ass coaches

I....wouldn't hate Harbaugh as a hire. It may be a circus over there but I feel at least pretty confident he could put a decent offense together?
