That's why I'd like to trade for an established one now

a C is not going to fix this roster. You can get one in free agency or draft one in the offseason without having to give up valuable draft capital now. A win against the Raiders isn't enough for me to think they still have a fighting chance at a playoff spot to start thinking about being buyers at the deadline.

I dunno if center is something I wanna pick up mid-season.  There's a lot of work that goes into installing NFL offenses and continuity mid-season is valuable.   Plopping a guy into the middle of a new system in week 8 or 9 doesn't seem ideal at a position that's responsible for line reads.

Fields has a $50m te, a top wr, we just drafted a dependable tackle and he's still been struggling to pass 60 yards passing by the third quarter consistently

Just because Kmet gets paid a lot doesn’t mean he’s good. So Fields had one WR and a rookie RT that looks legit. Hardly the kind of supporting cast we are talking about QB’s needing here.

We have one that can't snap and one that can't block. I can't imagine they wouldn't be a significant upgrade and make the QBs lives easier.

Mooney was also a 1000-yard receiver before Fields took over full-time.

Caleb Williams with another meh showing so far today.  15-25, 196 yards, 1 TD, 7.8 YPA in the 1st half but it looks uglier than the stat line suggests from what I’ve seen.

On pace for just a smidge under 400 yards is meh?  I understand not stat-scouting, but I've never seen such thirst to drag down a top prospect before the draft like this.  (and I mean from Bears fans in general, not just because of this one post).  I can't tell how much of it is the diva perception and how much of it is fans wanting to talk themselves out of drafting a QB because of the bust risk inherent to the position.

I'd like him to actually show it against a good defense. Beating up on bad teams doesn't exactly impress me. This same Cal team gave up 59 to Washington, 52 to Oregon St and 34 to Utah.

I'm not convinced "college results against good defenss" is a meaningful scouting metric.   That's how people talk themselves out of Peyton Manning because he got his butt kicked in the 1998 Orange Bowl.

Josh Allen's best games his senior year came against 2-10 Texas State and 3-9 UNM.   Patrick Mahomes' second to last college game was 18-for-36 for 219 1 TD 2 INT against a 3-9 Iowa State team.  The only teams Trevor Lawrence threw for 3+ TDs against in his senior year were Citadel, Miami and a 3-7 Georgia tech team.

Meanwhile Justin Fields put up 6 TDs against an amazing Clemson defense.

Because the Bears had no one else to throw to. He’s a #3 WR at best on a good team.

You really think every "good" team in the NFL has two WRs better than Darnell Mooney?

I'm  not ready to call him a #3, but I think he's an average at best #2.

I think the Williams backlash is based on some things that I don't want my team making decisions on, but I do love Drake Maye.

Not interested in trading for Chase Young.  Can't stay healthy, not interested in the old double pay where you pay draft capital for the privilege of signing what is essentially a free agent.

I'm not sure what to think about Maye's game tonight. 12/19 172 yards 1 TD with 12 minutes to go in the 4th. Which would usually be super disappointing, but when UNC has 252 rushing yards on 6.1 ypc, I suppose i can see why they'd keep it on the ground.

On another note, MHJ is a damn monster, every game he puts up huge numbers.

I'm not super worried about the stats. What I see from Maye is that he could really stand to clean up his accuracy. It's not terrible, but it's not "elite QB prospect" accuracy either.  Even when he's not under pressure he's not throwing those perfect-placement, make-the-receivers-life-easy throws.

No college situation mimics the experience of making pro-complexity reads against pro-complexity defenses, but he looked decisive in the reads he was making tonight. He's got plenty of arm for the NFL and a sense of how to tailor throws to the situation.  And being 6-4 will really help with seeing the field at the next level.

I think he's getting a bit of prospect hipsterism from people who want to have an alternative to Williams, but I wouldn't be at all sad to get him.

Take MHJ and it’s basically like drafting Calvin Johnson (I hope). You still need the QB of course but damn that’s tempting

I legitimately think he's got to be the guy at #1. I'd actually be surprised if he isn't a perennial probowler.

A buddy of mine threw out AJ Green as a comp for MHJ. I’ll take that as well.
