When are Dodgers fans just gonna start boycotting his playoff starts.

 

Dbacks absolutely hammered each pitch type. His command is just abysmal in the playoffs.

I think I’m rooting for a Phillies vs the Orioles WS.   Philly is a fun team to watch, plus it’s easy to root for them playing the Braves in that suburban Costco of a ballpark.

5 teams won 92 or more games this year. They've played 7 games, all at home, and are 0-7. The lesson: take as many playoff shots as you can.

Agree. They either need to shorten the regular season or get rid of this format.

They should shorten the regular season but never will. Also too many damn off days benefits these teams that had to play in the WC round. I get they only wanted to have two games on NFL Sunday but they should have started the LDS on Friday not Saturday

As much as the analytical side of me would love like, best of 13s, it'll never happen, and honestly I'd get bored too. Agreed on starting the LDS early. If you want to punish the wild card teams, really lean into it. Make them take a redeye Thursday night and throw out their 4th starter in game.

It won't happen, but you could keep the existing format and solve a fair number of competitive problems if the wild card round was a double header with a winner take all game the next day if necessary.  You restore the stakes where every day can lead to elimination, you emphasize depth and mirror the regular season better, and if you limit post-WC rest, then you sufficiently handicap those teams for the divisional round and better incentivize a top 2 record.

They 'should' play 162 and go back to a playoff system without half the damn teams in it. Since we know they aren't doing that, I guess yours is a reasonable alternative. But in general I hate the 'oh the playoffs are too big, guess we need to cut regular season games now' of sports.

I liked the 1 game wildcard round, but understand that teams didn't find that to be enough incentive.

My main gripe with the current format is the nonsensical off days.  Why the horsefeathers was the NL off yesterday knowing they're off again for the travel day tomorrow?  I have no love for the Braves, but one of the major selling points of the new format is that a team like the Phillies was going to have to burn their top 2 guys in the wildcard round.  Now though they can let Wheeler start games 2 and 5 of the DS on normal rest even after starting in the Wildcard round?

I assume they wanted to limit the number of games going up against an NFL Sunday, and also build in some buffer for a rainout, but there's got to be a better way.

I assume the easiest answer here is just that they wanted to split up the AL games and the NL games so you'd have baseball every night and not have to squeeze in 4 games on a weekday or whatever. But to your point, seems like something that could have been taken care of differently/earlier (run one of the WC series Monday-Wednesday, or even Wednesday-Friday). Kinda feels like they fell in love with the idea of having multiple game 3 all on one day in the WC series.

I really liked the one-game playoff though. The stakes were perfect for fringe playoff teams.

The previous format was perfect. Win your division and you don't have to worry about a 1 and done elimination game. Now, win your division but finish 3rd best division champ record and play with the rest of the riff raff in a best of 3.

the 3rd wild card is what is stupid, I guess MLB could have made the WC with only 2 WCs a best of 3. Game 1 on Tuesday with a possible DH on Wednesday, 2nd game of doubleheader is only played if necessary.
