Good think Taillon doesn't like giving up massive home runs.  Otherwise I might be worried about the Cubs ability to compete in this matchup against the Dongcrushers.

everything is about maximum pain right now, so taillon will probably pitch well, only for the offense to horsefeathers the bed again

I can’t imagine a scenario where another loss in the next 5 days is more painful than last night. Like if a team gets a walkoff hit, that’s baseball. But I can’t remember the last time a fielder just straight up missed a fly ball when he didn’t either lose it in the lights/sun or was at a full sprint. And then to have it when it did puts it over the top.

Snakes up 2-0 on the White Sox already.

I'm so depressed, I really thought I was going to get Cubs playoff baseball this fall.

Of course it’s Carroll too.

He said that he lost sight of the ball at the last second.  And to me, that looked very obvious.  Either way, I'm very confident that they would have blown that one run lead in the bottom of the 9th anyway.

Didn't Jacque Jones miss a fly ball in Houston?  Think I remember Dusty Baker saying something about the ball being too high or some other nonsense as to why Jones missed the ball.

we are going to miss the playoffs behind 2 teams that are 150 positive runs worse than us

We aren't going to miss the playoffs. Boys are going to come out hot tonight and get the dub.  Mets are already beating the Marlins mentally and are going to sweep the day.

Boom, we are up 2 games by midnight tonight.

Counterpoint: the Marlins will probably sweep the DH while winning both games by 1 run.

No way negative Nancy.  Most likely scenario is Mets sweep and we lose to Braves.

This is what I believe too. Suzuki saved Merryweather from blowing the game. TBH. Ross blew the game. Terribly managed game. Do not understand PCA in the 4th inning. Has he waited he could have put him in after the top of the 8th, or even to pinch run for Ross in the 8th. If he didn’t want Mastrobuoni to face Hand, rather the.n bunt with him, he could have pinch hit Wissom rherr and let PCA try to steal. Two huge mistakes were made. PCA coming in so early and then that stupid bunt. He needs to be fired after this year.

I wanted to quickly add that CIN is also going to lose tonight...

Honestly, the Marlins lineup is...not good.  It's an example of the oftentimes weirdness/randomness of baseball as to why they have a winning record.

Brant Brown in Milwaukee in 1998(?) was pretty similar, right down to last week of the season in a game they needed.  Just a clank off the side of the glove on a routine fly ball that the Cubs managed to survive.

What would be the baseball version of the Bears' glorious double doink in this case?  A soft thump?

The Cubs in the first round of a tie game hitting what would be the series winning base hit, but instead the runner on 2nd gets hit with the batted ball.
