They have Kevin Warren now. He'd be doing the hire. Maybe he knows what he's doing, after all, he is a "football guy".

True however, he was hired by the McCaskey' so, you have that.

He can’t be that bright of a football guy if he agreed to join the Bears

Can't wait for Williams to Elway or Eli Manning the Bears. I wouldn't blame him either.

I wouldn’t even be mad at him. Kid needs to make the best choice for his career and this ain’t it even if Poles and Eberflus are gone.

In fact if I’m Caleb Williams, I’d let it be known that I’m going back to USC for another year unless the McCaskey’s sell the Bears before the draft.  Ok my fantasy world is leaking into reality now.

I know this would never happen but if the Bears end up with 1 and 2 overall they should take Caleb Williams AND Drake Maye.  horsefeathers it, double your chances of getting it right.

I don't want the Bears to waste another first round pick on a QB.

Of the last 26 super bowl appearances for QBs, 14 were made by former first-round picks, 6 by a sixth-rounder (all Tom Brady), 3 by third-rounders, and 3 by second-rounders.

You don't have to take a QB in the first round, but it helps a lot and is the most common way to get a good one.

What I never want them to do is trade multiple picks to move up to get one.

This organization is a dumpster fire holy horsefeathers. They got worse, and I didn't think that was possible. Can the team fold? Move Jacksonville here.

fields definitely showed his ass in this game. But, I was at a Bears fans football party all day and I was screaming for this offense to shake up the play book and pretend like they want to win this football game and just throw one downfield on first down or 2nd down and 1, but nope, same ole, same ole, screen, running play, blah, blah, blah. This offense and defense is about as vanilla as it gets. How easy is it it to prepare for a vanilla offense and defense?

Fields proved he may not be an NFL QB yesterday, but this coaching staff also proved they are in way over their heads.  They are playing checkers while their opponents are playing chess.

ETA: And hell yes, I took Baker Mayfield in both of my King of the Mountain fantasy teams (survivor style roster) this week. Giving DC Williams some well earned time off made me a bit nervous, but I stuck to my guns.

I’m strangely at peace with what is becoming obvious, that we haven’t even seen the bottom yet. The bears are entering Cleveland, Detroit, Jets territory, likely a joke of an afterthought for a decade plus. Gone are the days of 7 wins in a disappointing season and occasionally contending.

my guess is Poles will get an undeserved second chance at the coaching hire and qb selection, exactly because of what he did to put this team in this position, nothing. They had to struggle to spend the minimum. They sat on the sidelines for two free agency periods and the McCaskeys’ profits soared. If you are gonna lose, you might as well not spend any of the owners money.
I got out of the Sunday ticket game at the exact right time. Maybe by the time my kids are done playing hockey on weekends they’ll be worth following again.

I have tickets to the Carolina/Bears Thursday night game. How do we get both teams to lose that game? I'm not sure a tie will be good enough.

A tie is effectively two wins when it comes to teams piling up losses. They will be batting other garbage teams with 12/13/14 losses

Arizona looks a lot better than the Bears, in fact all those toss up games those teams look better than the Bears. That being said, yeah 5 wins tops.

I mean this is it really. When Poles came in and punted his first  off season, that was the surrender flag. What can we look forward to, 10 years of of 1-5 win seasons?

Weirdly, I thought yesterday was a tiny bit encouraging from a perspective of wanting them to win games this season.  I thought they looked more like an ordinary bad NFL team, whereas week 1 they looked like they might go 0-17.

The offensive line could have looked a worse.  I thought the interior defensive line won the point of attack a reasonable amount of the time, even if they couldn't finish sacks because Baker Mayfield is just too darn strong for them.  DJ Moore had a big day. The running backs did things.

The biggest issues were that the secondary was truly putrid and Justin Fields can't play ordinary quarterback outside of two (weirdly out of place because of how good they were) drives.  The td pass to cap the 92-yard TD drive was everything he doesn't do 95% of the time.

Eventually they are going to say screw this and go back to letting him have designed runs, and that might win a few games if the fumbles bounce our way and he doesn't get hurt too quickly.

I actually agree with every word of this. IDK if they are forcing Fields to be a pocket passer (1 designed run) or if Fields is trying to prove he can do it from the pocket, but it's clear this ain't the horsefeathers they did successfully in the middle of last year.

A pocket passer that has no creative offensive plays to create positivity. I was practically screaming for a first down bomb or a deep pass on 2nd and 1 early in the second half. I was like "do something you aren't already doing", and they kept doing the same things they are already doing. I'm pretty sure when we get the QB School feed this week, we are going to see a lot of open receivers being passed over for sacks. Moore has to be targeted more than 10 times a game. He needs to be the biggest part of their offense. You target him so often, others become open because the defense starts leaning his way. The offense is as predictable as it can be. I felt Fields had more time to throw this game and all he really did was hold it longer. I also feel like he's dropping back and not even ready to make a quick throw if he did see someone get open. Basically, anything beyond 10 yards doesn't appear to be a part of this offense.
