So today will be tough.  Wicks can go 5-6 max, Merryweather is definitely out tonight, Alzolay is on the IL.  Fulmer and Leiter are available but who knows what we'll get from Fulmer coming off the IL.

Also, still looks like we might have Stro available in the pen on Friday so that's another option to get us through the weekend.

That sounds like long term IL

Maybe, maybe not.  Fulmer was just on the IL with a forearm strain and is back on day 16.  16 days for Adbert would have him back the final monday of the season.  But who knows

FWIW it doesnt sound like a serious injury, more something that needs to be rested for a bit

Why? Fulmer had the exact same thing. Probably a little tender so they are shutting him down for a bit. Pitchers have to be on for 15 days. So back 9/25 if all goes well.

Believe next Wednesday (9/20).  He last pitched on Saturday 9/9

I think pitchers have to be on the Il 15 days

Oh horsefeathers I forgot about 15 days for pitchers.  So looks like a minimum stint would have him back for series vs. the Braves and Brewers.  No more Adbert fist pumps at Wrigley unless its in the playoffs

oof. looking forward to boxberger trying to nail down a one run save tonight…

Hmm...lets say Wicks hits his PC limit after 5.  Cubs nursing a 1 run lead.  How do you fill out the last 4 (understanding that matchups might change this)

6th - Palencia or Boxberger

7th - Cuas (this is what Ross would do)

8th - Fulmer

9th - Leiter?

It's official, PCA is a Chicago Cub:

Happy trails Anthony Kay.  You couldn't even pitch well enough to be a lefty reliever in a bullpen without one.

Also (I know I'm posting way too much)

Tonights lineup contains Wisdom for Candelario..looks like that back injury is going to cause him to miss a few games, but probably a good thing for him to take a breather for a few days.

Maybe Candelario will miss a few. But maybe Ross wants Wisdom in this one. If there is ever a game to get Wisdom in this is the one. Not a hard throwing lefty in Coors. I predict a long one from Wisdom. If they are leading after 6 or a righty comes in, I would expect PCA to come to play center and Bellinger to move to first.

Irrelevant because we’ll actually be up 10 instead of 1.

Depending on the lineup position, I'd be tempted to try to get 4-6 outs from Wesneski in the middle innings.  He did throw yesterday but only 9 pitches, you know you're gonna need more length this series because Coors, and with Wicks starting the lineup probably won't be heavy on LHH(which means Wesneski over Smyly).  This also leaves open the possibility of not having to throw Fulmer immediately into the late innings fire with no game action in 2 weeks if you can avoid it.

Is boxberger and Fulmer back? So Alzolay, Kay, and what was the 3rd move for PCA?

edit: nvm Keegan.

Alzolay to the IL, Fulmer back

So knowing that he wasn't right, they used him on back to back days Friday and Saturday?

This is the Cubs, of course he's been hurt for weeks and they hurt the team for the maximum amount of time possible instead of doing what was obviously always going to be necessary

Is Boog dead? He hasn't done a game in like a week

Must need to rest up for college basketball season. Why would you want your main announcing crew to work a pennant race in the last month of the season anyway?
