I agree he’s a helluva talent. And by the comparing numbers, he’s certainly worth a lot in general financial terms.I just don’t know that if I were the Jets or a fan of the Jets, I’d be willing to take on that contract for a guy with his style of play and recent injury history.

This is absolute nonsense thinking from a fan perspective.

The fan has nothing but upside in this scenario. If he doesn’t live up to the contract the owner eats it and you start looking for a qb again, something you’ve already been desperately doing for decades.

My opinion has nothing to do with who "eats" the bad contract (if that's the case). It has more to do with having a huge contract tied up on a player with an injury history in a league with a hard salary cap. Directly impacts the composition of the rest of the roster.

Sure, but the Packers will suck and the rest of us will be happy because of that

It's one of the few things about the future I am genuinely excited that I'll get to witness

Picture the sheer number of Bears fans who have gone to their graves thinking this over the last 20 years.

Hell, a lot of them probably went out with some version of that as their strangled last words.

90% agreed, besides that the part of 'if he doesn't live up to the contract...and you start looking for a qb again', that search gets a lot harder when you don't have those (assumedly good) first round picks to pick a new qb.

Even this isn’t so scary. Nearly half the playoff QBs were taken outside the first and half the SB starters. I don’t believe guys like Wilson, Cousins, Prescott, Jimmy G, and Hurts - all prolific college QBs - are NFL starters by coincidence, the league really is just kinda dumb and racist about QBs. The position’s largely demystified, I even take prospects like Jarrett Stidham, Kyle Lauletta, and Bailey Zappe seriously. The Jets have got in on that action already too: Mike White was probably the most productive QB in the org since (another non-~first) Fitzpatrick in 2015

Heck, I want Lamar Jackson *and* one of Aidan O’Connell, Tanner McKee, Max Duggan, or Clayton Tune this year

I mean, it's kinda hard to take this argument seriously when you're looking at some of the proposed packages for the Bears pick. It's fine that you personally believe that, but it's pretty obvious that actual NFL teams place an enormous amount of importance on picking a QB at the top of the first round.

New Orleans 2022 QB stats (Dalton, Winston, Hill):

3969 YDS, 66%, 24 TD, 14 INT

Derek Carr 2022:

3522 YDS, 60.8%, 24 TD, 14 INT

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

I will say its damn near impossible to luck into back to back to back HOF QB's. Of course, if would just be the Bears luck if it works out for the horsefeathering Packers AGAIN!

That's true but doesn't go against what I said plus NFL teams are bad at it. All losing those firsts for an actual QB means to me is the Jets can block out the noise and avoid taking the next Sanchez, Darnold, Wilson, Trubisky, etc etc because conventional wisdom says they should/have to take a QB high

And also avoid taking the next Allen, Burrow, Lawrence, Mahomes, Herbert, Matt Ryan, Tua, Stafford, etc!

What would a Jets/GB trade look like? How many 1st rd picks?

I don't think it would take a 1st round pick, but I don't know.

I'd have hard time giving up a first-round pick, I know its Aaron Rodgers and all but, he is 39 going on 40, is nowhere near as mobile as once was thereby, making him more injury prone. Not to mention the big hit to the Jets salary cap, I'm thinking more like a 2/3 round pick?

What should I love more, the impending doom of Aaron Rodgers time in GB or the glee of such a meager return

I saw someone on Twitter say that the Jets should insist on getting a '24 second round pick from Green Bay that voids if he plays the '24 season. Essentially insurance against Rodgers retiring after one year

This concludes what I know about the situation. I hate the QB (don't even want to type his name again) for trying to get the media to hang on his every action/word/movement every offseason. He might be the biggest attention whore out there, depending on your view of Musk and Trump, and I hate him

Dolphins steal a future HoFer more or less in his prime, getting Jalen Ramsey for Hunter Long and a 3rd

Long’s a decent prospect and all but Ramsey’s serious business and one of the great DBs

I don’t have a lot of time to digest or research anything you ever say, but yeah. It seems like the Dolphins got a steal here. Does Ramsey get like $75 mil a year?

This Aaron Rodgers fiasco is getting hilarious. Packers are currently handcuffed on making any moves since Rodgers could just stay with the Packers and his price tag this year would be 60m. Now he wants Randall Cobb as part of any trade package. But, in the meantime, there is no guarantee he ends up in NY at all. It makes me wonder if he does end up staying in GB, that he ends up the most expensive backup in the history of the NFL.

It strikes me this is the exact sort of thing Rodgers loves, in all his jerkiness.

The rodgers cap hit is less for the packers if he stays. Also, cobb is a free agent. Jets showing interest in Rodgers bros Cobb, Lazard, and Marcedes Lewis so far. I’m pretty sure the deal is essentially done at this point. I’m interested in hearing about how much Tom hates all of this.

Looks like the Jets just signed Lazard. Surely this thing is all done but the press conference. Otherwise Rodgers might be putting up one of the all time psyche-jobs in sports history.

That’s a good move without Rodgers but damn

I don't know, I wouldn't trust Rodgers to follow through, he loves the spotlight but, he's also a [expletive], should he struggle, the New York media will not pull any punches. Wonder if that's on his mind.

Don’t the validity to this, but I’ve heard a contract can’t be renegotiated in the first year. AR signed his extension one year ago today. Jets May need his contract renewed/extended order to create the cap space to take on his contract. And that couldn’t be done prior to today. If true, makes sense.

I don't think there's any chance of a restructure before a trade. The trade is gonna be tricky enough for GB without adding new restructures which could only make it harder for them. Jets can do whatever restructure they need after the fact.

I mean unless GB is trying to eat more to improve the draft comp, but it's a pretty narrow margin of what they could even eat and still make the financials work.
