Somehow the Bears are 5.5 point home favorites vs the vagabonds from southern california. Chicago was lucky to beat a bad Broncos team and got embarrassed against the other AFC west team they played. The Chargers are 2-5 but have scored nearly as much as they've been scored upon, 140-141. The Chargers can score some points, and it won't take a ton of them to outscore the Bears.

After week 2's lucky FG win everything still looked grim but they went on a 2-game streak of fairly impressive play. Things have hit the low for the season now, so it's the perfect opportunity to have a surprising win. If they aren't good enough to win this one, they might have one more win on the schedule this season.

At least the Hicks injury crippled the defense so we can limp home to 6-10 instead of convincing ourselves we won't get housed in the first playoff game that requires 21+ points to win.

to be fair, last year we failed in the playoffs because our kicker sucked and we knew that early on

Also the offense did jack squat all game but for some reason people forget that.

What that reason is, we'll sadly never know...

I remember, prior to the fg attempt, second or third down, Mitch had Miller wide open down the middle and of course, missed. On the Score they were speculating on teammates beginning to get frustrated with his terrible play, can't blame them. How many times can you defend a guy who misses you when you're open time and time again?

That was a throw that had to be caught for a TD because I don't believe the Bears had any timeouts left. Going off memory, but it may have been a situation where Miller wasn't deep enough in his route.

They had a manageable fg attempt to win the game. The team they were playing had won the super bowl a year prior, they weren’t facing the ny jets. The kicker sucked all season, everyone knew he sucked, and ultimately he sucked

Blame whomever you want, but thats why we lost

Offense scores 1 TD, it's the kicker's fault!

A 43 yarder is like 75%-80% in the NFL. Yes, the Bears could have been in a better position to win the game but the kicker sucked/sucks.

And the head coach spent an obscenely large portion of the offseason rehashing the stupid kicker situation while nothing was done to fix the stagnant offense.

I think what's most concerning to me is how, other than Allen Robinson (maybe RRH?), the team appears to have regressed across the board. Who is playing better this year than they were last year? None of these guys are players on the back half of their career. A bunch of these guys were due to take at least a small step forward, yet they have taken a step back instead. It's a huge indictment of this coaching staff.

Also Roquan Smith is trending rapidly towards being a bust. He got pushed around all over the field on Sunday.

That's a bit of a stretch. Both offensive tackles are on the back half. Nearly all of the DBs are in their late 20s if not 30s. It's Trevathan's 8th year.

All of Pace's early picks are huge question marks (at best) right now. There are plenty of guys that have not stepped up that should, but there's also a good deal of natural regression.

Pace is starting to look like early era Angelo, hitting on a ton of mid round picks to float success and missing on every 1st rounder.

We know how that turned out...

Not really. If you want to quibble with "none", I'm talking about the young guys they expected to be key contributors this year and the years following - the supposed foundation of this team: Daniels (22), Cohen (24), Miller (24), Jackson (26), Roquan (22), Whitehair (27), Trubiksy (25), Fuller (27), Floyd (27), Goldman (25). Who in this group is playing better than last year? I'd expect to see some regression but it's pretty surprising to see it across the board.

Okay, none of the young guys are on the back half of their career, okay.

But there is a very good chance Mitch Trubisky has already played way more than 50% of his eventual career games in the NFL.

Someone gimme odds as to whether the GM or the coach gets fired first. Obviously, the Bears being the Bears they'll do either WAY too late WAY down the line, but let's speculate on a hypothesis.

It's weird that you have an issue with this. They have 2 starters that are exactly 30 (Amukamara and Massie) - it's not a team of geriatrics. The point I'm making is that some of these guys should have improved and basically none of them have - most have gotten worse.

I just think it's kind of pointless to make the distinction that none of the young guys are on the back half of their career.

It would be meaningful to suggest none of the starters are, but that's not the case here. Also, it's football, 30 isn't the start of the back half of a career.
