Okay, none of the young guys are on the back half of their career, okay.

It's weird that you have an issue with this. They have 2 starters that are exactly 30 (Amukamara and Massie) - it's not a team of geriatrics. The point I'm making is that some of these guys should have improved and basically none of them have - most have gotten worse.

I just think it's kind of pointless to make the distinction that none of the young guys are on the back half of their career.

It would be meaningful to suggest none of the starters are, but that's not the case here. Also, it's football, 30 isn't the start of the back half of a career.

But my point wasn't to define when the back half of someone's career starts or ends. I'm talking about the regression across the board that, to me, isn't primarily explained by aging. Most of the key contributors of this team are between 24-28 years old.

That's a bit of a stretch.

Not really. If you want to quibble with "none", I'm talking about the young guys they expected to be key contributors this year and the years following - the supposed foundation of this team: Daniels (22), Cohen (24), Miller (24), Jackson (26), Roquan (22), Whitehair (27), Trubiksy (25), Fuller (27), Floyd (27), Goldman (25). Who in this group is playing better than last year? I'd expect to see some regression but it's pretty surprising to see it across the board.

Okay, none of the young guys are on the back half of their career, okay.

But there is a very good chance Mitch Trubisky has already played way more than 50% of his eventual career games in the NFL.

Unless, Trubisky somehow becomes useful he's done after 2020 (Bears have the option for '21, correct?). Maybe Pace can use his middle-round magic to hit on a QB? Beyond Trubisky, the most disappointing player is Roquan. He was a beast at UGA and last season, then becomes a punching bag? There's got to be something wrong, you don't lose it like he has without something being drastically wrong.

Someone gimme odds as to whether the GM or the coach gets fired first. Obviously, the Bears being the Bears they'll do either WAY too late WAY down the line, but let's speculate on a hypothesis.

GM first, but the next GM has to keep Nagy and that eliminates any hire with self-respect.

I'm still betting that they want to avoid the constant churn they've had of late and will keep these guys together for one more shot at a QB fix. They can't keep doing the "new gm new coach" every other year thing.

Probably. Hard to imagine Pace getting a third HC hire.

Right now their contracts align through 2022 so that offseason would be the time to fire them both.

If they don't pick a new QB in 2020, but pick one in 2021, you only have one year to evaluate that QB, plus the possibility of saddling a new GM/HC with someone else's QB choice one year in.

I'd can both at the same time. Pace for not getting it done because is Trubisky busting & Nagy for not developing Trubisky. Trubisky should not be this inept mechanically and Nagy, Ragone, etc. should be better at correcting it. Pace deserves blame by drafting someone with no instinct at QB.

I don't know which came 1st between Trubisky's lack of potential or Nagy's inability to develop, neither deserve a chance to correct it with a new QB after Trubisky fails.

A collection of all the video breakdowns people have done on Mitch's decision making last week. I am not an expert on football X's and O's but it seems damning. Like he's making mistakes that someone who doesn't know the playbook and has no football instincts would make.

Oh, yessssss.

That was hard to watch, it's almost obscene how open the receivers are, most especially Miller over the middle on third down. There's no one within three yards of him, that's an easy 1st down, probably another 10 or more on top.

the cohen/out of bounds had me screaming during the game

Crazy feet. doesn't see secondary options, doesn't plant his feet properly to make throws, throws miss terribly. I don't know why you can't have a plan to trade for someone before Tuesday if he has another stinker this weekend. I'd give Bray a chance out there rather than continue to let Trubisky frustrate the WR group further.

Mineaswell throw some more picks into the maw if it gets you a QB. Can’t get any more screwed in the medium-term outlook than they already are.

If you're throwing away mid round picks for meh QBs mineaswell throw a future first and some mid round picks and hope it gets you the next Mahomes, or at least Watson. Based on Pace's 1st round track record so far...

Sure would have been nice to actually have game tape of this guy in college before making the pick.

Will Nagy have Trubisky on a short leash Sunday? If so, does he go with Daniels or Bray? I have to think if he doesn't show some success in the first or second offensive series the boos are going to cascade down.

They would have to make a roster change to get Bray on the active roster. It would be easy to do by dropping Mike Davis. When you only run 7 times a game, you don't really need a 3rd RB.

Also if they cut Davis early enough in the season (week 10 maybe?) the comp pick for Amos is back in play....

If they dont do that I would put the non-move on par with Angelo's Warrick Holdman blunder. It's just pure inexcusable idiocy not to cut Davis at this point.

A couple weeks ago I was slightly concerned such a move would be an obvious slight to him and be perceived badly for the Bears in future FA moves but at this point Davis would probably be happy to be out. Call up Nall in his place to ride the bench

I'm not sure what you're advocating here. Trading firsts to a team with an elite young QB? Trading up in the next draft?

Trading up yea.

Verse something like trading a mod rounder for a probably broken Cam Newton.

I’m wondering if part of the reason Mitch is afraid to scan the field and look past his primary target is that he’s afraid to throw INTs. Mitch has a lot of bad stats but his INT% is fairly decent. Now last year he was extremely fortunate with passes that should have been picked off, but he was also a better QB last year. This would also explain why he’s all the sudden better in situations where he has to improvise and just play with instinct.

To save his career he probably needs to open it up and stop worrying about potentially making mistakes. What does he have to lose at this point?
