If Zobrist isn't close to returning, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Happ is in Cincinnati on Tuesday to give Joe another lefty option.

Glad the cubs are turning my offseason doom boner flaccid. This team is playing great and seems to be really focused.

Addison russel and old man ricketts can still eat horsefeathers, though.

It seems like Schwarber is robbed by the defensive shift more than anyone else on the team.

I mean, is he really being "robbed" if he's so limited as a hitter than unless he walks or dongs, he's basically screwed?

You know what I mean. He seems to hit into the shift a lot when otherwise it would have been a hit.

I do! That's why I don't think he's being robbed since he is, unfortunately, just hitting to where he usually hits to. He makes it too easy for the other team to defend against him.

That said, it might be time to put him in the top spot since Heyward sucks again. Schwarber's at least getting on base at a great clip, even though he can't do much else.

Why is Zagunis here over Happ at this point?

Did we get another year of control with this Iowa stint?

He originally came up in mid May of 17, so I think he'd have to be down quite a while to get the Cubs another year of control (like Javy was in 15).

I'm in Scotland so everything time wise is fucked up but: 1. nice. 2. oh man, poor Schwarber that must feel bad man. 3. Bryant!

Their start was so putrid, I'm still having difficultly grasping that they've essentially been the 2016 team since.

It's getting pretty close to them just being the 2016 team to be honest.

2019: .254/.349/.450, .341 wOBA, 113 wRC, 11th in defensive value (cumulative stat), 20th in baserunning

2016: .256/.343/.429, .333 wOBA, 106 wRC, 1st in defensive value, 3rd in baserunning

2019: 9.09 K/9, 4.08 BB/9, 1.03 HR/9, .279 BABIP, 3.44/4.02/3.87 ERA/FIP/xFIP

2016: 8.88 K/9, 3.05 BB/9, 1.10 HR/9, .255 BABIP, 3.15/3.77/3.74 ERA/FIP/xFIP

Defense and control are down, but the offense is up. +54 RD through 38 games translates out to +230. 2016 was +252. We were -10 through the 1-6 start, which means since then we've played at +64 in the last 31 games.

to be fair, that 2016 was one of the most absurd defensive teams in baseball history - I'm not sure a team BABIP-against of .255 is ever duplicatable

That was when we shifted a lot more too, for some reason we gave it up and the few times we do shift now it never seems to work.
