1) Cubs score 3 in the first inning

2) Lester gets a standing O as he takes an 8th inning AB without having given up a run

3) Pigs fly

1) Rizzo bunt single against a shift ignites a rally second time through the order

2) Maddon switches a reliever into LF for 1 AB late... who horribly misplays a ball, giving up the tying/go-ahead run

(I'd say say Hamels goes at least 1 IP, but I think that's a near gimme and thus doesn't qualify)

1. Lester gives up a ton of hard contact, leaves the game after 4 but no more than 2 runs allowed.

2. Cubs offense comes close to setting single game playoff record for runners LOB, yet still scratch out a walkoff win.

1. Javy does something amazing, either saving a run on defense or scoring one on offense when most people would have been out.

2. Contreras grounds out on a 3-1 or 2-0 pitch in a big moment.

1) Kyle annoys everyone on NSBB throughout the game

2) Lester is very good but not dominant. Cubs score a couple early and pull away late from a HR off the bat of one David Bote

Should the Cubs manage to win perhaps, playing the Brewers again isn't the worst outcome. Yelich' hitting .400, .536, .880, 1.416 over the last 28 games, .370, .508, .804, 1.313, maybe he's that good however, its more probable there's going to be a large regression to the mean.

Case in point, Daniel Murphy, 2015, NLCS, hottest hitter in history goes 3 - 20 in the WS. Haven't looked it up because Yelich really stands out but, I suspect there's other Brewer hitters due for a regression to the mean as well. It's going to happen at some point. Given the Cubs on again, off again offense there's also a chance it'll click for a series of course, that means it'll probably go back into the tank for the NLCS.

that's not how regression to the mean works

1) Cubs score two runs in the first inning

2) Derwood calls everyone ninnies for caring so much about the wild card game, not realizing the Cubs are playing in it

1. I get shitfaced (s-faced) because I got turned down for a job today and the Cobs compound my misery.

2. Somehow, my misery is erased by a Seal Boy PH double to score the winning runs late.

Perhaps, saying the hitters who got collectivey hot will go collectively cold is a bit much, I agree. By the way how does regression to the mean work?
